Hong Kong Gold Exchange

About Hong Kong Gold Exchange

The Hong Kong Gold Exchange (HKGX) is today the sole venue for the physical trading of gold and silver in Hong Kong, marking a significant shift in the financial market in the City. After 115 years of service, HKGX officially began operations on January 1, 2025.HKGX is formed by the successor of the Chinese Gold & Silver Exchange Society (CGSE), which had served the market for a significantly longer period.

Although CGSE is retiring from this important and impactful role, HKGX is open and accepting traders and investors under its motto, "Inheriting a Century of Heritage, Creating New Golden Opportunities."

Through growth, HKGX not only continues Hong Kong's unique global position but also provides a modern, forward-thinking venue and framework for traders and investors to benefit from Hong Kong's long-established traditions and adapt to a constantly changing environment.

From Heritage to Innovation

HKGX has been built upon a legacy of heritage established by the CGSE.While CGSE has been transforming the market for precious metals trading in Hong Kong and Asia for over a hundred years, HKGX changes corporate form to achieve a more structured and efficient governance of its activities, and creates a structure for the marketplace as it focuses on the future while respecting its heritage.

Currently, 141 exchange members comprise the HKGX membership, compared to 137 members before the restructuring.HKGX has now established new platforms, facilities, and resources to accelerate the safe and secure delivery of trading services.

The volume of trades each day has been remarkable, growing into the billions of Hong Kong dollars, reflecting the level of business and the energy in this market.

HKGX strives to bring together innovation and advances in the agenda for precious metals trading and investment in Hong Kong by unearthing the value created by gold and silver mining and products that would serve to strengthen our economy in Hong Kong and the global economy as a whole, and provide a viable platform for growth for the industry.
