The Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC) has issued a warning regarding the website j2t.tech, stating that it is operated by an entity that is not authorized to provide investment services or perform investment activities in accordance with Cypriot law.
According to CySEC, the website j2t.tech does not belong to an entity that has been granted authorization under Article 5 of Law 87 (I)/2017. This law sets out the regulatory framework for the provision of investment services and the performance of investment activities in Cyprus. Entities that wish to offer such services are required to obtain the appropriate authorization from CySEC before carrying out these activities.
In its announcement, CySEC emphasizes that the operator of j2t.tech is not included in the list of investment firms licensed to offer investment services and/or investment activities. As a result, CySEC has advised the public against dealing with this entity for any investment-related services.
Regulatory guidance for investors
CySEC is urging investors to exercise caution and to verify the regulatory status of any investment firm before engaging in business with it. The regulator recommends that investors consult the official CySEC website at www.cysec.gov.cy to confirm whether a firm is authorized.
On its website, CySEC maintains updated lists of entities that are licensed to provide investment services and perform investment activities under the applicable legislation. By referring to these lists, investors can ascertain whether a particular firm holds the necessary authorization and operates under CySEC’s supervision.
Implications for the public
The warning serves as a reminder that conducting investment activity through unauthorized entities may expose investors to significant risks, including the absence of regulatory oversight and investor protection mechanisms. While CySEC’s announcement is specific to j2t.tech, the regulator’s guidance highlights the broader importance of checking the authorization status of any investment service provider.
CySEC concludes its notice by clearly advising the public not to conduct business with the entity operating the website j2t.tech. Investors are encouraged to rely only on firms that appear on CySEC’s lists of licensed entities when seeking investment services or engaging in investment activities.
