CurrencyFair: CBI licence C57373

Under CurrencyFair's terms, mostly you. Its website terms make you alone responsible for everything done on the website with your registration details and tell you not to share your password, user name, security questions or PIN (clause 9.8), and its US money transfer agreement makes you solely responsible for unauthorised transactions, with no obligation on CurrencyFair to recover the money (section 16). Its US terms and conditions, however, apply Regulation E: you must report an unauthorised or wrong transaction within 60 days of the statement on which it first appears, and CurrencyFair says it will investigate and, if it needs more time, provisionally credit your account within 10 business days (20 for new accounts).

Not all of it. CurrencyFair's home-page FAQ says customer funds are segregated and held in top-tier international banks, and its website terms say money received is kept operationally separate from CurrencyFair's own funds, but the same terms say money received solely for currency exchange is not 'Relevant Funds', has no statutory safeguarding under the Payment Services Regulations and would not have that protection if CurrencyFair became insolvent (clauses 13.6, 13.7 and 13.11). Its Australian terms (clause 4.5) and its UK and Singapore terms (clause 12.4) also allow deposited funds to be used in performing CurrencyFair's own obligations to counterparties. UK residents' accounts are provided by Moorwand Ltd, which the UK terms say is not a bank and protects customer money through safeguarding instead.

No. Clause 12.1 of CurrencyFair's website terms says no interest is paid on funds held.

Email the Customer Experience team at support@currencyfair.com; a formal complaint is made by email quoting your CurrencyFair ID. Under its complaints procedure, a formal complaint is acknowledged in writing within five business days and receives a final response within 40 business days, while the UK procedure promises a final response within 15 business days, or up to 35 in some cases. Unresolved complaints can be escalated to the ombudsman the procedure names: the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (Ireland), the Financial Ombudsman Service (Australia) or, for UK customers, the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Yes. The CurrencyFair Money Transfer App is available on the App Store and Google Play, and accounts can also be used on the web at app.currencyfair.com. It is an app for exchanging and sending money, not trading software, so there is no MetaTrader or similar platform.

CurrencyFair accepts deposits in 17 currencies: AED, AUD, CAD, CHF, CZK, DKK, EUR, GBP, HKD, HUF, NOK, NZD, PLN, SEK, SGD, USD and ZAR. Its support centre lists 24 currencies for exchange and transfer, adding INR, IDR, ILS, KRW, MXN, PHP and VND, which can be paid out but not sent in, and its processing-times page also lists THB for transfers out. Customers in the UK can send in only GBP, EUR and USD.

CurrencyFair charges a flat fee per transfer out, which its pricing page gives as €3 or the currency equivalent. Its processing-times page lists the fee by currency, for example €3 for EUR, £2.50 for GBP, US$4 for USD and A$4 for AUD, and most transfers out arrive within one or two business days, with PLN taking up to four. The receiving bank or an intermediary bank may add its own charges, particularly outside the SEPA zone.

It depends on the currency, and CurrencyFair's own pages give different times. Its processing-times page says GBP and EUR usually arrive within seconds, HKD and SGD within 0 to 1 business days, AUD within 0 to 2 and other currencies within 1 to 2, while its How It Works FAQ says euro payments typically take 2 business days and other currencies up to 5. By bank transfer only: CurrencyFair does not accept debit or credit cards, and it lists no e-wallets or crypto. You can send in 17 currencies with no CurrencyFair fee, quoting your CurrencyFair payment reference. GBP and EUR can also be paid in instantly by Express Deposit through Open Banking, Australian customers can use BPAY, Singapore customers PayNow, and US customers ACH or wire, up to US$200,000 per deposit.

In Hong Kong the site footer names CurrencyFair Asia Limited as the licensed company while the Hong Kong terms name CurrencyFair Limited, Hong Kong Branch, and UK residents' accounts are provided by the partner firm Moorwand Ltd, with CurrencyFair (UK) Limited and its parent as programme manager.

No. CurrencyFair is an international money-transfer and currency-exchange service, not a trading broker: it offers no CFDs, no leverage and no trading platform such as MetaTrader. Customers exchange money at its rates and send it to bank accounts abroad, and its website terms say the service should not be used for speculation or investment.

Yes. CurrencyFair accepts residents of 58 jurisdictions only, mainly the EU and EEA states, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates, and residents of every other country cannot register. Its sign-up form does not offer Hong Kong as a country of residence, even though CurrencyFair runs a Hong Kong site, and personal accounts are not open to Emirati nationals. US customers must be located in the United States and hold a US dollar bank account there in their own name.

CurrencyFair offers phone support from its offices in Ireland, Australia, the United Kingdom, Singapore and Hong Kong, Monday to Friday; the Irish line, +353 (0) 1 526 8411, is open from 9am to 5pm Dublin/London time. You can also email support@currencyfair.com or use the contact form on its contact page, and its support centre answers common questions through articles and an automated chatbot. There is no live chat with an agent. CurrencyFair's site also links its Facebook, X and LinkedIn pages.

No. CurrencyFair does not offer trading, so it charges no trading commission and quotes no spread in pips. Its cost is an exchange margin, which its pricing page puts at 0.53% of the amount exchanged on average, plus a flat fee of €3 (or the currency equivalent) for each transfer out. There is no account set-up fee, no monthly fee and no CurrencyFair fee to send money in.

CurrencyFair offers no leverage. It is a money-transfer and currency-exchange service with no leveraged, CFD or forex trading, and its website terms say the service is meant for travellers, individuals and companies buying currency for legitimate use and should not be used for speculation or investment.

CurrencyFair publishes no minimum deposit, and opening a Personal or Business account is free, with no monthly fee. You verify your identity with the documents it asks for, or company documents for a business, and then fund the account by bank transfer in one of 17 currencies, with no CurrencyFair fee. Cards are not accepted.

Yes, but as a payment and money-transfer business rather than a trading firm: CurrencyFair offers no forex, CFD or leveraged trading. Four of its group companies hold licences that were confirmed on the regulators' registers on 1 November 2026: CurrencyFair Limited is authorised by the Central Bank of Ireland as a payment institution (C57373), CurrencyFair Australia Pty Ltd holds ASIC Australian financial services licence 402709, CurrencyFair (Singapore) Pte Ltd is listed by the Monetary Authority of Singapore as a Major Payment Institution, and CurrencyFair Asia Limited holds Hong Kong Money Service Operator licence 25-04-03271. A licence is not a guarantee of safety: CurrencyFair's terms say money received solely for currency exchange is not safeguarded under the Payment Services Regulations, its Australian, UK and Singapore terms let it use deposits in meeting its own obligations, and its website terms make you responsible for anything done with your login details.
