FSCA is classed as an offshore regime. An offshore registration can be entirely legitimate, but it typically means lower capital requirements, no compensation scheme, and a complaint route that is harder to use from abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about this licence

Answered from this register entry and the authority’s own record.

Most Popular Questions

Yes. On 24 October 2026, the FCA register entry for Stratos Markets Limited listed six clone entries, such as 'FXCM Germany', for parties that have used the firm's details. Before depositing, check that the company named on the website matches the regulator's own register entry and that the site is one the regulator lists for that company.

Only for an intermediary. On 24 October 2026, the Financial Sector Conduct Authority's register showed Stratos South Africa (Pty) Ltd authorised under FSP 46534 as an intermediary only, for Category I derivative instruments and with no permission to give advice. FXCM states that South African clients trade with Stratos Markets Limited in the UK, so trades and client money sit with that company, which has applied to cancel its FCA authorisation.

Yes. On 24 October 2026, the Israel Securities Authority's list of companies licensed to operate a trading platform showed Stratos Light Ltd, company number 515234623, as active, with fxcm.com/il as its website. The licence belongs to the Israeli company only, not to FXCM's companies in other countries.

Yes. On 24 October 2026, ASIC's register showed Australian Financial Services Licence 309763 as current for Stratos Trading Pty. Limited (ACN 121 934 432, formerly FXCM Australia), the company behind fxcm.com/au. An interim stop order on the company's retail CFDs made in December 2025 was revoked on 16 December 2025.

Yes, through Stratos Europe Ltd, formerly FXCM EU Ltd. On 24 October 2026, CySEC's register listed it as a Cyprus Investment Firm under licence 392/20, with no suspension marked. The entry records cross-border services to 28 listed European states and to Switzerland. CySEC approves only certain web addresses for the firm, including the EU and country sections of fxcm.com, and business done through other FXCM sites or group companies is not covered by this authorisation.

Yes for now, but the UK company behind FXCM has applied to cancel that authorisation. On 24 October 2026, the FCA register listed Stratos Markets Limited, firm reference 217689, as 'Authorised - applied to cancel', a status shown since 15 October 2026. It noted that the firm must still meet FCA standards in dealing with its customers. The FXCM UK site already sends new account applications to Trade Nation, a different firm.

FXCM UK's representatives and live chat are available 24 hours a day, 5 days a week. You can call +44 20 7398 4069 or the free UK line 0808 234 8789, message on WhatsApp at +44 20 7398 4063, or email info@fxcm.co.uk. Complaints get a full written response within eight weeks and can then go to the UK Financial Ombudsman Service; each regional FXCM company has its own phone and email.

It depends on the FXCM company. FXCM UK states that retail clients of Stratos Markets Limited can lose all their deposited funds but owe nothing beyond them, while professional clients can lose more than their deposits. The international site's risk warning says clients could lose more than their deposits, and its Rate Card reserves interest of 1.75% above the overnight rate on negative balances.

Only on the UK site: Stratos Markets Limited accepts PayPal deposits from retail clients from 50 in GBP, EUR or USD, with no maximum, and clients who funded by PayPal can withdraw back to it. The international site's deposit FAQ says it does not accept PayPal deposits. PayPal deducts its own fee before FXCM credits the deposit.

On the UK site, FXCM describes CFD Trading, Spread Betting (for UK residents only), Active Trader (from GBP 25,000 of account equity), Professional Clients and Corporate accounts. The international site offers a CFD Trading account, an Active Trader cash rebate programme from USD 10 million of monthly volume, a Corporate account from 50,000 and an Islamic Interest Free account. New UK accounts are now opened through Trade Nation rather than FXCM.

Bank wire withdrawals arrive within 3 to 5 business days, after a request that can take up to 2 business days to process. On the UK site, wires through BACS or SEPA are free, other GBP or EUR wires cost 15 to 30, and USD wires cost 25. On the international site, the Rate Card charges USD 25 to an account in the US or UK and USD 40 elsewhere, while the help centre states a flat USD 40 for all wires. Card withdrawals go back to the card used, up to the amount deposited on it, with no FXCM fee.

Yes. Both FXCM Rate Cards charge a dormant account fee of 50 units of the account's base currency, or the remaining balance if that is lower, once an account has had no trading activity for 12 months. Other account charges include VPS hosting at 30 units a month and a currency conversion mark-up whenever a deposit, withdrawal or fee has to be converted.

FXCM's standard pricing puts the cost in a variable spread, and both of its main sites quote average spreads of 1.3 pips on EUR/USD and 1.8 pips on GBP/USD. On the international site, CFD accounts pay no commission by default, while selected accounts move to commission pricing of USD 4.00 to 6.00 per 100k per side. On the UK site, the Rate Card of 25 June 2026 lists CFD commission as nil, but the spread betting page says CFD accounts are charged commissions, so the broker's own pages disagree. UK Active Trader accounts pay GBP 2.00 or GBP 1.70 per 100k per side, depending on monthly volume.

Not with FXCM itself: the FXCM UK site states that new trading accounts are now provided through Trade Nation, and its Open Account links lead to a Trade Nation page. Trade Nation is a different firm from Stratos Markets Limited, and that page describes Trade Nation's own accounts and terms. FXCM UK's own pages still describe its CFD, spread betting, Active Trader and professional accounts.

It depends on the FXCM website you use. The UK site (fxcm.com/uk) is run by Stratos Markets Limited, the European sites (fxcm.com/eu and its country versions) by Stratos Europe Limited in Cyprus, fxcm.com/au by Stratos Trading Pty. Limited and fxcm.com/il by Stratos Light Limited. The international site (fxcm.com/markets) and the Latin American, Thai, Chinese, Arabic, Malaysian, Indonesian and Vietnamese sites are run by Stratos Global LLC of St Vincent and the Grenadines. South African clients deal through Stratos South Africa (Pty) Ltd as an intermediary for Stratos Markets Limited, and fxcm.com/ca belongs to Friedberg Direct, a division of Friedberg Mercantile Group Ltd.

Leverage depends on the FXCM company. UK retail clients of Stratos Markets Limited can use up to 30:1, and UK professional clients give up the retail leverage limits. On the international site run by Stratos Global LLC, the CFD account page advertises up to 1000:1 on forex, indices and commodities, but the same site's TradingView Pro page states 400:1, so the broker's own pages disagree.

The minimum deposit to open an individual FXCM account is 50 in the account's base currency, on both the UK and the international site. Corporate, trust and IRA accounts need 50,000. After the first deposit, card deposits start at 50 and bank wires have no minimum.

The methods depend on the FXCM site. The UK site accepts Visa, Mastercard and Discover cards, bank wire, PayPal, Google Pay, Apple Pay, Open Banking, Skrill, NETELLER, Rapid Transfer and Sofort by Klarna. The international site accepts Visa and Mastercard, bank wire, Google Pay, Skrill, NETELLER, China Online Payment, crypto and local bank or mobile money transfers in parts of Asia, Latin America and Africa, although its deposit FAQ says it takes no PayPal or eWallet deposits. Deposits carry no FXCM fee under normal circumstances, and withdrawals go mainly back to the card used or by bank wire, as most local methods are deposit only.

FXCM offers three platforms: its own Trading Station (Windows, web, iOS and Android), MetaTrader 4 (Windows, Mac, Linux, web and mobile) and TradingView, which connects to an FXCM account through a live trading integration. The international site also lists six third-party Specialty Platforms, including QuantConnect, MotiveWave and Sierra Chart, which FXCM connects on request.

Yes, through Stratos group companies whose licences were each confirmed on the regulator's register on 24 October 2026: Stratos Markets Limited by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA, firm reference 217689), Stratos Europe Ltd by the Cyprus Securities and Exchange Commission (CySEC, licence 392/20), Stratos Trading Pty. Limited by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC, AFSL 309763) and Stratos Light Ltd by the Israel Securities Authority (company 515234623). In South Africa, Stratos South Africa (Pty) Ltd is authorised by the Financial Sector Conduct Authority only as an intermediary, under FSP 46534. The FCA register shows that Stratos Markets Limited has applied to cancel its authorisation, a status recorded since 15 October 2026, and FXCM's international sites are run by Stratos Global LLC in St Vincent and the Grenadines, which states that it is not required to hold a financial services licence there.

Licence 46534 was issued by Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), the financial authority for South Africa.
FXCM holds this FSCA licence. A licence on record means the authority published an entry; it is not an endorsement.
We located this entry on the FSCA register. Note that confirming a register ENTRY is not the same as confirming a live licence — the register’s own wording on this page is what states its current standing.
Wikilix rates FSCA tier 2: a well-established regime with real supervision, usually with lower compensation limits than a tier-1 authority.
Yes, FSCA is classed as an offshore regime. That can be a legitimate registration, but it usually means lower capital requirements, no compensation scheme, and a complaint route that is harder to use from abroad.
This page links straight to the FSCA register. Search it for 46534, and for the name FXCM rather than the trading brand.
FXCM has 4 other licences on record with Wikilix, across 4 jurisdictions. They are listed further down this page.
