Broker Summary

Summary of the broker

The Hana Bank is considered to be South Korea's Top Banking Institution, with an extensive range of Customer-Focused Financial Services, Innovation and stability to drive innovation.

The Beginning of Hana Bank

On June 25, 1971, Korea Investment Finance Corporation became the first Financial Institution in South Korea that is 100% wholly owned by the private sector. In 1991, it acquired full commercial banking status and began acquiring banks, including Chungcheong Bank (1998), and Seoul Bank (2002), as well as Korea Exchange Bank (2012 - completed in 2015). In 2019, Hana Bank and its affiliates began integrating into Hana Financial Group (founded in 2005).

Hana Bank has pursued expansion globally, with a number of branches and subsidiaries, including China, Indonesia, Vietnam, and the first Korean bank to open a branch in Taiwan (2021).

Features and Services

Hana Bank delivers retail and corporate banking services, including accounts, loans, credit cards, and investment services. Hana Bank is the largest FX bank in South Korea, accounting for approximately 40% of the nation's foreign exchange market. In addition to this strong market presence, Hana Bank has exceptional capabilities in private banking, as well as digital service innovation.

Regulatory Compliance

Hana Bank has full regulatory compliance in South Korea. Hana Bank maintains all necessary regulatory approvals required to operate in all of the countries that it operates in.Hana Bank is a fully licensed and operational bank in South Korea and is regulated by the South Korean Financial Regulators. In addition, Hana Bank has been issued a license to conduct Renminbi and Debit Card transactions by the Chinese Banking Regulators dating back to 2009. Additionally, Hana Bank is licensed and operates in Indonesia, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Hana Bank has received certifications in the areas of Information Security Management Systems (ISMS) and ISO20000 for Security and IT Services.

Under the heading of Trading Conditions & Technology, it is noted that Hana Bank does not operate as a brokerage firm, as it does not provide an opportunity for traders to trade with "spreads" or the use of "leverage/High Leverage". Investment-related services would be provided through Hana Financial Investment; however, Hana Bank's ability to offer digital services would be through its Digital Banking Services.

Hana Bank's Digital Banking Services provide customers with secure access to their accounts globally. Hana Bank has an integrated IT services infrastructure that provides clients with access to a secure Global Network.

The following table outlines the Fee Structure and User Experience, etc. as it relates to Hana Bank's services, along with a market position summary.

Hana Bank is regarded as one of the most stable banks in South Korea, and its financial strength and quality service have led Hana Bank to be awarded the title of Korea's Best Bank by Finance Asia in 1997. In addition, Hana Bank holds the record for the longest period of profitability and payment of dividends of any other bank in South Korea.

As summarized in the following paragraphs, Hana Bank is one of the largest banks in South Korea based on market share and has the greatest global reach of any South Korean bank, making it a compelling solution for both domestic and international clients. The only negative to Hana Bank is the potential for a large bureaucracy and slower technological advancement compared to the fintech community.

As a result, more emphasis will be placed on Hana Banks growth outside of South Korea starting with its expansion into Taiwan in 2021 and continuing with new partnerships being formed (i.e., AMTD Partnership). Additionally, Hana Bank's growing emphasis on Digital Transformation will aid in ensuring its long-term sustainability in the competitive financial industry.
