Most Popular Questions

An investment account requires an existing HSBC integrated banking account, an age of at least 18, and residence in Hong Kong, mainland China or Taiwan, together with proof of address. It is opened in the wealth section of the HSBC HK App in six steps and is free to open and maintain.

Trading is not offered as a standalone account, so the banking relationship comes first, and the relationship tier a client holds then determines the brokerage rates and fee waivers available.

Yes, as securities margin lending rather than as leveraged forex. HSBC Wealth Portfolio Lending has been offered against Hong Kong stocks at rates from 2.9% a year as at September 2026, priced off one-month HIBOR.

The discounted rate is not open to everyone: it requires reaching the third Top Trader Club trading tier, so it is not available at HSBC One level or below. No leverage ratio is published for it.

Faster Payment System transfers and local real-time gross settlement transfers are instant, and so are cash deposits at a cash deposit machine or over the counter. Electronic direct debit top-ups from accounts at other local banks are immediate as well.

Global Money Transfers to more than 50 countries can arrive in as little as one working day. Cheques deposited by photograph in the app clear within two business days, with a 5.30pm cut-off on business days, and the deposit appears in transaction history straight away even though the funds are only available once the cheque clears.

It depends almost entirely on the channel. Faster Payment System transfers and local real-time interbank transfers are free through online and mobile banking, and inward telegraphic transfers credited to an HSBC account are free. Cash withdrawals are free at HSBC Group ATMs in Hong Kong, and HKD25 per transaction at other Hong Kong ATMs on the Visa or Mastercard networks.

The same instruction placed over the counter costs much more: a local interbank transfer is HKD260 at a branch against free online, and an outward telegraphic transfer is HKD70 online against HKD260 at a branch. Foreign currency note deposits and withdrawals above a daily threshold cost 0.25% of the whole amount, and most charges fall or are waived as the relationship tier rises.

Hong Kong, United States and China A shares, plus unit trusts, bonds and certificates of deposit, structured products, warrants and CBBCs, new listings and gold, including the HSBC Gold Token.

Two markets need extra paperwork. United States stocks require a market data agreement and a W-8BEN form, and China A shares require a renminbi savings account and non-US person status.

Top Trader Club is a volume-based brokerage programme with six tiers. Brokerage is 0.25% at the first two tiers, then 0.18% above HKD10,000,000 of monthly volume, 0.08% above HKD20,000,000, 0.03% above HKD30,000,000 and 0.01% above HKD40,000,000. The minimum charge per transaction falls from HKD100 to HKD8 from the third tier.

It also pays interest on uninvested cash through one-month Hong Kong dollar time deposits, rebates the safe custody fee, and gives access to HSBC's own research. A joining offer running to 28 February 2027 gives preferential brokerage of 0.03% to Premier Elite customers and 0.08% to Premier customers.

Trade25 charges a flat HKD25 per month in place of commission and platform fees on Hong Kong, United States and China A shares. The HKD25 is only charged in a month where the client trades or holds stocks, and the zero-commission benefit applies to the first HKD250,000 of cumulative trading volume each calendar month.

It is designed for ages 18 to 25, extended to age 35 until 31 December 2026. Customers aged 26 and above must complete 25 or more stock transactions each calendar year to stay in it. It is joined in the HSBC HK App or the HSBC HK Easy Invest app.

Standard brokerage is 0.25% of the transaction amount with a minimum of HKD100 for orders placed through digital channels, rising to 0.50% for orders placed by phone or in a branch. Custody is HKD25 per month and dividend collection 0.5%, with a minimum of HKD30.

Two programmes reduce that. HSBC Trade25 replaces commission and platform fees with a flat HKD25 per month, and Top Trader Club prices brokerage by monthly volume, down to 0.01% at the top tier.

Three platforms, all HSBC's own. HSBC HK Easy Invest is the dedicated stock-trading app for iOS and Android, with free real-time quotes, charting and technical indicators, order entry from the bid and ask queue, new-listing subscription and an exchange-traded fund screener. It has no desktop build.

The HSBC HK App is the mobile banking app and carries the wealth section used to open the investment account, and HSBC Online Banking is the browser platform with the full portfolio dashboard. There is no MetaTrader, cTrader or other third-party terminal.

The operating company is The Hongkong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Limited, incorporated in Hong Kong under company number 0263876, with a registered address at 1 Queen's Road Central, Central, Hong Kong. The bank was founded in Hong Kong in 1865.

A company registration is a corporate record and is not financial regulation. The licence recorded for the Hong Kong securities business is a separate Securities and Futures Commission entry, number AAA523.

No. HSBC's Hong Kong site markets no retail forex or contract-for-difference account, and publishes no leverage cap, spread or execution model of the kind a margin broker would. Currency exchange is offered as a banking service priced through the bank's own board rates, not as leveraged trading.

What can be traded is a bank investment range: Hong Kong, United States and China A shares, unit trusts, bonds and certificates of deposit, structured products, warrants and CBBCs, new listings and gold.

Personal banking hotlines are open 24 hours a day on +852 2233 3033, and live chat is available around the clock. WhatsApp is available on +852 2233 3000, and the help centre is at .

Support is offered in English, Traditional Chinese and Simplified Chinese. Securities orders can be placed Monday to Friday from 8am to 4.10pm Hong Kong time. The company's registered address is 1 Queen's Road Central, Central, Hong Kong, and the contact address published for enquiries is the V Heun Building, 128-140 Queen's Road Central.

HSBC publishes no leverage ratio for its Hong Kong investment service, because the service is not a margin forex or contract-for-difference product. No maximum leverage of the kind a forex broker advertises applies to it.

Margin is offered instead as securities lending: HSBC Wealth Portfolio Lending has been available against Hong Kong stocks at rates from 2.9% a year as at September 2026. The discounted rate requires reaching the third Top Trader Club volume tier, so it is not available at HSBC One level.

HSBC publishes no minimum deposit for its investment account, which is free to open and maintain, and HSBC One carries no minimum balance requirement for Hong Kong ID holders. Investing can start from HKD100 through the FlexInvest fund service.

What the higher tiers require is a balance rather than a deposit: HSBC Premier asks for a minimum Total Relationship Balance of HKD1,000,000 and HSBC Premier Elite for HKD7,800,000, maintained across the whole relationship with the bank.

Every route is a bank rail. HSBC supports the Faster Payment System for free real-time Hong Kong dollar and renminbi transfers, real-time gross settlement for local interbank transfers in Hong Kong dollars, renminbi, US dollars and euro, outward and inward telegraphic transfers, HSBC Global Transfers and Global Money Transfers for international payments, direct debit by autoPay, electronic direct debit top-ups from accounts at other local banks, and cash, cheque, demand draft and cashier's order handling at branches and machines.

There is no credit or debit card funding, no electronic wallet and no cryptocurrency: the account is funded from a bank account held with HSBC. Faster Payment System and real-time gross settlement transfers arrive instantly, mobile cheque deposits clear within two business days, and Global Money Transfers can arrive in as little as one working day.

The licence recorded for HSBC in Hong Kong is a Securities and Futures Commission licence, number AAA523, covering dealing in futures contracts. The Securities and Futures Commission is Hong Kong's statutory securities regulator, and its regime requires client assets to be segregated, although Hong Kong has no mandatory client fund insurance scheme behind that.

Two further licence entries are recorded for other parts of the group: an Australian licence numbered 232595 and a Labuan market-making licence with no number recorded. Neither governs an account opened in Hong Kong.

HSBC holds this HKMA licence. A licence on record means the authority published an entry; it is not an endorsement.
