Overview
Karoll Brokerage is the retail trading arm of Karoll JSC, a Bulgarian investment intermediary founded in 1997 and part of the Karoll financial group. It operates from 1 Zlatovrah Str., Sofia, with additional offices at 57 Hristo Botev Blvd. in Sofia and branches in Varna and Burgas. The business is built around two quite different offerings: brokerage on the Bulgarian Stock Exchange and access to international markets through partner platforms, and leveraged forex and contracts for difference on MetaTrader 4 and the in-house Karoll Dealing platform.
Regulation and licence
The broker states on its own regulation page that Karoll is licensed as an investment intermediary by the Bulgarian Financial Supervision Commission, and that it is a member of the Bulgarian Stock Exchange - Sofia and an active member and registration agent of the Central Depository. It publishes an image of the licence but not the licence number, and it links to no register entry, so the authorisation could not be checked against the regulator itself in this research. The site does display the retail loss disclosure that European rules require - it states that 59.1% of retail investor accounts lose money when trading CFDs with this provider - and it caps retail leverage at 1:30, both of which are consistent with a supervised European intermediary rather than an offshore one.
Safety of client money
Client assets fall under the Bulgarian Investor Compensation Fund, which the broker's own asset-protection page describes as paying 90 per cent of the value of a claim up to a maximum of BGN 40,000 per client where the intermediary cannot meet its obligations. Deposits are accepted only from a bank account in the client's own name, and withdrawals are returned to a previously declared account in that name.
Accounts
Real accounts are organised by platform rather than by tier. Karoll MetaTrader 4 and Karoll Dealing both open from EUR 100 or USD 100. Interactive Brokers accounts opened through Karoll carry no stated minimum. The Karoll Broker platform serves Bulgarian Stock Exchange trading. Alongside these, the Advance FX copy-trading range publishes five strategy profiles - AXF Standard, AXF Focus, AXF Risk, AXF Focus Lite and AXF Risk Lite - at leverage ceilings from 1:10 to 1:300, priced on a performance fee of 25 per cent of monthly profit.
Fees
Bulgarian Stock Exchange equity commission starts at 0.55 per cent with a EUR 2.50 minimum per trade and falls on a quarterly-turnover scale to 0.30 per cent above EUR 500,000. Bonds and government securities are 0.20 per cent, minimum EUR 2.50, through the electronic platform. Orders placed in an office cost 1 per cent of transaction value with a EUR 15 minimum. Transactions on MTF BSE International carry a EUR 12 minimum. Forex and CFD trading is priced through floating spreads that the broker advertises from 0.5 pips.
Leverage
Retail clients are capped at 1:30 on the forex and CFD platforms. Higher figures appear on older pages of the site and in the copy-trading range; a reader should treat 1:30 as the applicable retail ceiling and ask the broker directly about anything above it.
Platforms
Karoll MetaTrader 4 covers forex. Karoll Dealing is the in-house platform for contracts for difference on shares from 21 countries, gold, silver, oil and currency pairs. Karoll Broker is the broker's own Bulgarian Stock Exchange platform, with margin buying, short selling and an iOS and Android app. International markets are reached through Interactive Brokers' Trader Workstation, and CMC Markets is named as a further partner.
Funding
Funding is by bank transfer or in cash at a Karoll office. Exchange accounts are funded in EUR at UniCredit Bulbank; forex and international-markets accounts at United Bulgarian Bank in BGN, EUR or USD. The beneficiary is Karoll JSC and the payment reference must carry the client's PIN or client number. The site publishes no card, e-wallet or crypto funding, and no deposit or withdrawal fee, limit or settlement time.
Pros and cons
- A long-established, named Bulgarian company with physical offices, verifiable in the national commercial register.
- Investor compensation cover and a European retail leverage cap, which offshore CFD brands do not offer.
- Transparent, published equity commission schedule with a turnover scale.
- The licence number is not published anywhere on the site, and no register link is given.
- Funding is bank transfer or cash only, and no fees, limits or processing times are disclosed.
- Forex and CFD conditions are thinly documented: no instrument counts, no execution model, no stop-out or margin-call levels.
Assessment
Karoll Brokerage reads as a conventional domestic investment intermediary that has added leveraged products, not as a leveraged-CFD brand with a thin corporate shell behind it. The company is real, old, locally rooted and disclosed. What it does badly is publish the specifics: a prospective client cannot read the licence number, the execution model, the funding fees or the full CFD conditions off the website, and has to ask for them. That is a documentation weakness rather than a red flag, but it is the reason a reader should confirm the terms in writing before funding an account.
