Is Mining Capital a scam?

Likely scamMEDIUM confidence
Updated September 10, 2026
Unlicensed crypto mining investment scheme

Mining Capital (miningcapital.io) shows the clear hallmarks of a crypto investment scam: a fabricated expert team, no licence, and a site that has since disappeared.

  • No licence, no company: the site took money for crypto 'mining packages' while naming no regulator, no legal entity and no address.
  • A fake team: it presented well-known outsiders, including the founder of the Avalanche blockchain and the co-founder of Genesis Mining, as its own executives.
  • Return-bait: it promised to 'maximise profits' through tiered 'mining machines', the standard high-yield crypto pitch regulators repeatedly warn about.
  • Now gone: the website no longer loads and the domain has been dropped, after operating for under a year.
  • Name confusion: a different, earlier operation called Mining Capital Coin was charged with a $62 million fraud by U.S. authorities in 2022; that is a separate business, not this website.

Risk scorecard

Each area is scored 0 (clean) to 10 (worst). Higher means more risk.

Worst area: Critical
SeverityLowModerateHighCritical

Regulation

10/10 · Critical

No licence and no regulator of any kind, while soliciting crypto investment deposits; nothing to verify on any register.

Identity & transparency

10/10 · Critical

Anonymous operator with no legal entity or address, and a leadership page that impersonates real, unrelated public figures.

Withdrawals & conduct

4/10 · Moderate

No fund-integrity complaints were located; the site vanished before leaving a complaint trail, so the low count reflects absence of data, not proven good conduct.

Reputation

5/10 · Moderate

No independent reviews, complaints or regulator warnings name this website on any platform; a real investment operation would leave some trace.

Website claims

9/10 · Critical

Fabricated expert team, 'maximise profits' and 'attractive returns' promises, and invented partners and roadmap.

Operational history

8/10 · Critical

Earliest trace February 2025 and the domain now dropped; an operation under a year old that has already gone dark, with no verified history.

Why we reached this verdict

How the evidence adds up.

We rate Mining Capital a likely scam. The evidence sits on the operation's own pages and on the public record for its website.

  • A fabricated team. The site's 'experts' were real, well-known people lifted from elsewhere in the industry, including the founder of the Avalanche blockchain, the co-founder of Genesis Mining, and academics linked to MIT, Harvard and Cambridge. There is no sign any of them were involved. Presenting other people as your leadership is a deliberate attempt to manufacture trust.
  • An unlicensed, high-return pitch. It sold tiered crypto 'mining machines' and a token, promising to 'maximise profits' and deliver 'attractive returns'. It named no regulator and held no licence. Outsized returns, anonymous ownership and referral-driven growth are the exact pattern regulators say defines cloud-mining fraud.
  • No company and no accountability. The site disclosed no legal entity, no registered address and no phone, only a generic support email.
  • It has since vanished. The website no longer loads and the domain has been removed from the registry, consistent with a short-lived scheme that collected funds and shut down. The earliest trace of the site is February 2025, so it ran for under a year.
  • On its own name. A separate, older operation called Mining Capital Coin was charged by the U.S. SEC and Department of Justice in 2022 over a $62 million cryptocurrency fraud, and a $46 million judgment followed in 2025. We found no shared ownership, entity or infrastructure between that case and this website, so we treat them as different operations that happen to share a name and do not attach that case to this site.

Because the operator is anonymous and the site is now dark, we assess the risk of fraud as high while keeping our confidence at a moderate level. This is a young, now-defunct operation that left almost no public trace, so parts of the picture cannot be independently corroborated.

Every finding, with its source and how strongly it points.

4 against0 in favour
  • E1The website sold crypto 'cloud mining' investment packages (tiered 'mining machines' MC1 to MC6) and a token, promising to maximise profits and deliver attractive returns, rather than operating as a regulated brokerage.

StrongArchived Mining Capital homepage (web archive, October 2025)
  • E2The site's leadership section presented real, well-known outside figures, including the founder of the Avalanche blockchain and the co-founder of Genesis Mining, as its own executives, which is fabricated.

    StrongArchived Mining Capital team section
  • E3No regulator, licence number, legal entity or physical address appears anywhere on the site; the only contact is a generic support email.

    ModerateArchived Mining Capital homepage
  • E4The domain no longer resolves and has no current registry record, and the site is offline, consistent with a short-lived scheme that shut down.

ModerateDomain Name System and domain registry lookup
  • E5The earliest archived copy of the website is 16 February 2025 and the copyright reads 2025, with no trace of the site before 2025, indicating an operation under one year old.

    ModerateWeb archive capture index
  • E6No independent reviews, complaints or regulator warnings naming miningcapital.io could be found on review platforms or general searches, so the operation left almost no public footprint.

WeakTrustpilot, Reddit and general web searches
  • E7A separate, earlier operation named Mining Capital Coin (MCC International Corp, CEO Luiz Capuci Jr.) was charged by the U.S. SEC and Justice Department in 2022 over a $62 million crypto fraud; it used different websites and is not shown to operate this domain.

    ModerateU.S. SEC press release 2022-81
For context: the U.S. SEC's 2022 action against a separate, earlier operation of the same name, Mining Capital Coin. This is not the miningcapital.io website reviewed here.
For context: the U.S. Department of Justice's 2022 indictment in the separate Mining Capital Coin case, a different operation from this website.

The other side

The strongest case in this broker’s favour.

In fairness, here is the case for caution before treating this as settled.

  • No financial regulator has published a warning that names miningcapital.io, and we found no first-hand victim reports tied to this exact website.
  • The site is already offline, so no one is being actively solicited through it today.
  • 'Mining Capital' is a fairly generic name, and the well-publicised $62 million Mining Capital Coin case involves a different operation; we have deliberately not counted that case against this website.
  • Because the operation left so little trace, part of the assessment rests on the site's own archived pages rather than on independent third-party evidence.

None of this offsets the fabricated team and the unlicensed, return-promising model, which are visible on the operation's own pages.

What would change this

What we would need to see to revise the verdict.

What would move this verdict, in either direction.

  • Toward safer: credible proof that the named experts were genuinely involved and that a real, licensed company operated the site. We found no such evidence.
  • Toward safer: the site returning under a named, regulated entity with a verifiable licence and a genuine, checkable team.
  • Toward worse: a regulator warning that names miningcapital.io, or first-hand reports of deposits taken and withdrawals refused, either of which would push this toward a confirmed scam.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this broker’s safety.

12 questions
Is Mining Capital (miningcapital.io) a scam?

Our assessment is that it very likely is. It solicited crypto 'mining' investments while holding no licence, hiding the company behind it, and presenting a fabricated team. The website has since gone offline and its domain has been dropped.

Is Mining Capital a fraud?

We did not obtain a court ruling against this specific website, so we state it as our assessment: the risk of fraud is high. The operation showed the classic pattern of a cloud-mining scam, including anonymous ownership, outsized return promises and an invented leadership team. A separate, earlier operation of the same name was charged with fraud by U.S. authorities in 2022.

Is Mining Capital regulated?

No. The site named no financial regulator and displayed no licence, and we found none. It took deposits for crypto 'mining packages' with no oversight of any kind.

Can I withdraw my money from Mining Capital?

The website is no longer online and the domain has been removed, so there is no working platform to withdraw from. If you have funds on it, treat them as at serious risk and report the loss.

Is my money safe with Mining Capital?

No. There is no licence, no named company and no regulator standing behind it, and the operation has disappeared. Money sent to it is unprotected.

Who owns Mining Capital?

The operator is anonymous. The site disclosed no legal entity, no directors and no address, only a generic support email. The 'team' it listed used the identities of unrelated, well-known people in the industry.

How old is Mining Capital, and is it still online?

The earliest trace of the website is February 2025, and it appears to have run for under a year. It is now offline, and the miningcapital.io domain no longer resolves.

Is this the same as the $62 million Mining Capital Coin fraud case?

No, they appear to be different operations that share a similar name. The well-known Mining Capital Coin case (CEO Luiz Capuci Jr.) was charged by the U.S. SEC and DOJ in 2022 and involved different websites. We found no shared ownership or infrastructure with miningcapital.io, so we do not attach that case to this site.

Are the Mining Capital team members real?

The people pictured are real and well-known in crypto and academia, but there is no sign they had anything to do with this site. Listing figures such as the founder of the Avalanche blockchain and the co-founder of Genesis Mining as its executives is impersonation used to look credible.

What is the LID token or 'Light Network'?

It was the site's own token, tied to a roadmap of exchange listings and 'mining machine' investment packages. We found no evidence of a genuine, listed, tradable token or a real mining operation behind it.

I think I was scammed by Mining Capital. What should I do?

Stop sending any further payments, including to anyone promising to recover your funds for a fee. Save your transaction records and wallet addresses, report the loss to your local police and financial regulator, and ask your bank or card provider about a chargeback if you paid that way.

What should I check before investing in any crypto mining site?

Look for a named, licensed company with a verifiable address, on-chain proof of real mining, and a team you can independently confirm. Be very sceptical of fixed or 'guaranteed' returns, anonymous operators and referral-driven bonuses, which are the standard signs of a mining scam.

What we recommend

The practical takeaway from everything above.

Our advice

Our advice for anyone who finds this site or its promotions.

  • Do not send money or crypto to miningcapital.io or any revival of it. There is no licensed company standing behind it.
  • If you already deposited, stop sending further payments, gather your transaction records and wallet addresses, and report it to your local police and financial regulator; if you paid by card or bank transfer, ask your provider about a chargeback or recall.
  • Be alert to recovery scams. After a crypto loss, fraudsters often pose as recovery agents and charge an upfront fee. Ignore anyone who guarantees to get your money back for a payment.
  • Before any crypto 'mining' investment, check for a real licence, a named company and address, on-chain proof of mining, and a team you can independently verify. Anonymous operators promising fixed or outsized returns are the standard scam pattern.
