Independent safety report

Is OTM Trade a scam?

Confirmed scamHIGH confidence
Updated August 27, 2026
Withdrawal trap with advance-fee demands (collapsed money game)

Yes. OTM Trade was an unlicensed forex operation that collapsed on its clients, and its website otmtrade.com is now gone entirely.

  • We found no trading licence anywhere. A search of the United States NFA register, the only body that could authorise a Connecticut firm to take retail forex deposits, returned no record of any firm called OTM.
  • The brand that came immediately before it, OTM Capital, was formally warned by the Danish financial regulator on 1 December 2017, which confirmed the company was not registered in Denmark and was not at the Danish address printed on its site.
  • On a public Malaysian forum, independent posters describe OTM Trade as a repackaging of the failed OTM Capital scheme run by the same people. One investor reports about 1.5 million US dollars taken, a company cheque refused by the bank and accounts deleted.
  • Client reports gathered on a third-party broker directory between 2019 and 2021 describe the same trap: withdrawals refused, then further payments demanded as tax, fees or credit repair before any money would be released.
  • The domain no longer resolves and the .com registry holds no record of it, so anyone contacted today by someone using this name is dealing with a dead shell.

Each area is scored 0 (clean) to 10 (worst). Higher means more risk.

Worst area: Critical

Regulation

10/10 · Critical

No trading licence found with any regulator, and the NFA register holds no record of any firm called OTM despite the operation presenting a United States corporate identity while taking deposits.

Identity & transparency

9/10 · Critical

Entity names shift across OTM Capital LLC, OTM Ventures Inc and OTM Capital, and the Danish regulator confirmed the predecessor was not present at the address published on its own site.

Withdrawals & conduct

10/10 · Critical

Fund integrity complaints across two independent venues describe one mechanism: withdrawals refused, then further payments demanded as tax, fees or credit repair before release.

Reputation

9/10 · Critical

Unresolved loss reports on a public forum and a broker directory over 2019 to 2021, with a regulator warning already attached to the immediate predecessor brand and no positive footprint anywhere.

Website claims

8/10 · Critical

Guaranteed returns of 100 per cent and 5 to 8 per cent monthly were promoted, and an Indonesian licence was claimed to clients, but we could not read the broker's own site directly so some claims stay untested by us.

Operational history

9/10 · Critical

About four years of trading that ended in collapse rather than an orderly wind down, followed by an abandoned website and a domain that has now been released.

Who they are

A quick desk file on the company behind the brand.

Key facts we established.

  • Brand: OTM Trade, part of an OTM-branded family that also used the names OTM Capital, OTM Trust and OTM Preferred.
  • Legal entity: OTM Capital LLC, a Connecticut limited liability company. The earlier brand traded as OTM Ventures Inc.
  • Registered: 28 Wysteria Court, Torrington, Connecticut 06790, United States.
  • Website: otmtrade.com. The domain no longer resolves and is no longer registered.
  • Only licence: none. No trading licence was found with any regulator, and the firm is absent from the United States NFA register.
  • Offers: forex, metals, indices and commodities on MetaTrader, sold largely through agents and messaging groups.
  • Not accepted: no published restricted-country list survives. Marketing was aimed at China, Taiwan, Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia.
  • Age claim: the operation dates from about 2017 under the OTM Capital name and about 2019 under OTM Trade. It stopped functioning around 2021.

Regulation

Who really oversees this broker, and what each licence is worth to you.

No proof found

Proof of regulation on an official register: No

We could not confirm this broker on any genuine regulator’s register.

No licence claims on record.

The United States NFA BASIC register returns no results for a firm name search on OTM, captured 27 August 2026.

Why we reached this verdict

How the evidence adds up.

We reached this verdict on positive evidence of harm, not on the absence of a licence alone.

  • No permission to take the money it took. We searched the NFA BASIC register for OTM on 27 August 2026 and got zero results. The register states plainly that a firm returning no result is one that is not and has not been registered with the CFTC. A business presenting a United States corporate identity while taking retail forex deposits has no lawful basis to do so without that registration.
  • A regulator already named the predecessor. The Danish FSA warning of 1 December 2017 against OTM Capital confirmed the company was not registered in Denmark, held no authorisation, and was not located at the address published on its own website. A fake regulatory address is not an administrative slip.
  • The rename does not clear that history. Independent posters on a Malaysian forum state that OTM Trade is a repackaging of OTM Capital, run by the same people through a series of empty shell companies. We found nothing showing the operations were separated, so the earlier record carries forward.
  • Clients did not get their money back. The complaint record describes one mechanism repeatedly: trade, request a withdrawal, get refused, then get asked for more money first. Reported demands include ten per cent of the balance to correct bank details, a further sum to repair a credit score, and a tax of 86,536.32 RMB. A demand for extra payment before funds are released has no legitimate counterpart.
  • It ended the way these schemes end. Reports describe deleted accounts, a closed trading platform and a dishonoured company cheque. The site then decayed to a hosting placeholder, a parking page and finally a bare error page, and the domain has now been dropped altogether.
  • Coverage limits, stated plainly. The Connecticut company register could not be opened, so the incorporation details we report are unconfirmed, and the operation is not a young business whose age we had to estimate.

Note on operating history: the 8.4-year track record rests on company incorporation alone. No domain registration date could be established, so this is an upper bound rather than a confirmed age.

The other side

The strongest case in this broker’s favour.

We looked hard for an innocent reading before settling on this verdict.

  • Is there a real licensed OTM? Yes, and this matters. PT OTM Kapital Berjangka is a genuine Indonesian futures broker holding a Bappebti permit and exchange membership. But it is a different legal entity, at a Jakarta office, and nothing we found ties it to otmtrade.com or to OTM Capital LLC. We have therefore not credited its licence to this operation, and readers should not confuse the two.
  • Could the complaints be planted by a competitor? Unlikely. They span two unrelated venues over roughly two years, are written by users with ordinary posting histories, and carry the kind of detail fabricators rarely bother with: named amounts, dates, a bounced cheque and a specific tax figure to two decimal places.
  • Is a dead website simply a failed business? Sometimes, and a quiet wind-down would not be fraud. That is not this pattern. The site went dark while clients were still reporting blocked withdrawals, which is the shape of a collapse, not a retirement.
  • Is the Danish warning really about this firm? It names otmcapital.com, not otmtrade.com, so we have not recorded it as a warning against this domain. We treat it as the immediate predecessor's history, which is how it is presented above.
  • What genuinely counts in their favour: no regulator has published a warning naming otmtrade.com itself, and we could not read the broker's own site to see what it actually claimed, so some of the marketing claims described by users remain untested by us.

What would change this

What we would need to see to revise the verdict.

This verdict is falsifiable. Any of the following would force us to revisit it.

  • An entry on the NFA register, or any other recognised regulator's register, showing OTM Capital LLC authorised to hold client money during the period it was trading.
  • Documentary proof that PT OTM Kapital Berjangka and OTM Capital LLC are the same regulated group, and that client funds sat inside the licensed Indonesian entity.
  • Evidence that clients who reported blocked withdrawals were in fact paid out in full, such as bank records or a settlement.
  • Proof that OTM Trade was owned and operated separately from OTM Capital, with different owners, a different entity and no shared staff or infrastructure, which would detach the 2017 Danish warning from it.
  • A credible showing that the forum and directory reports were fabricated, for example the same wording appearing under unrelated brands.

Frequently asked questions

Quick answers about this broker’s safety.

12 questions
Is OTM Trade a scam?

Yes, on the evidence we found. It took deposits without any trading licence, clients report being refused withdrawals and then asked for extra payments, and the operation has since collapsed and abandoned its website.

Is OTM Trade regulated?

No. We found no trading licence with any regulator. A search of the United States NFA register, which covers firms authorised to take retail forex deposits in the US, returned no record of any firm called OTM.

Is the website otmtrade.com still online?

No. The domain no longer resolves, and the .com registry holds no record of it, meaning the registration lapsed and was released. Archived copies show the site decayed to a parking page and then a bare error page.

Can I still withdraw my money from OTM Trade?

Almost certainly not. Clients reported deleted accounts, a closed trading platform and a company cheque refused by the bank. There is no functioning company left to pay you.

Who was behind OTM Trade?

The contracting entity on record is OTM Capital LLC, a Connecticut company. The earlier brand traded as OTM Ventures Inc under the name OTM Capital. Forum posters describe the same group also using the names OTM Trust and OTM Preferred.

What is the connection between OTM Trade and OTM Capital?

Independent posters on a Malaysian forum describe OTM Trade as a repackaging of OTM Capital after the earlier scheme failed, run by the same people. OTM Capital was formally warned by the Danish financial regulator in December 2017.

Was OTM Trade a US-regulated broker because it had a Connecticut company?

No. Registering a company in a US state is not a financial licence. It says nothing about permission to hold client money, and this firm never appeared on the NFA register.

Is OTM Trade the same as the licensed Indonesian broker PT OTM Kapital Berjangka?

We found no evidence that they are the same. PT OTM Kapital Berjangka is a separate Indonesian company with a genuine Bappebti permit and a Jakarta address. Do not treat that licence as covering OTM Trade.

Why were clients asked to pay a tax or fee before withdrawing?

Because that demand is the scam itself. Reported charges included ten per cent of the balance to correct bank details and a tax of 86,536.32 RMB. A genuine broker deducts costs from your balance and never asks for new money to release it.

How old was OTM Trade?

The OTM brand appears from about 2017 as OTM Capital, and OTM Trade launched around 2019. It stopped functioning around 2021. We could not confirm the company incorporation details on the state register.

Are there reviews of OTM Trade anywhere?

There is no Trustpilot profile for the domain. The substantive record sits on a Malaysian discussion forum and on a third-party broker directory, both carrying client reports of blocked withdrawals between 2019 and 2021.

What should I check before depositing with any broker?

Open the regulator's own register yourself and confirm the exact company name and website match the site asking for your money. Check that the licence permits holding client funds, and treat any request for an upfront payment to release a withdrawal as fraud.

What we recommend

The practical takeaway from everything above.

Our advice

Treat this name as dead and dangerous.

  • Do not send money to anyone using the OTM Trade or OTM Capital name. The company no longer operates a website and the domain has been released, so any live site using the brand today is a fresh operation trading on the old name.
  • Ignore anyone offering to recover your OTM losses for an upfront fee. Collapsed schemes attract recovery scams that target the same victims a second time.
  • If you lost money, report it to the police and to the financial regulator where you live, and keep your deposit receipts, chat logs and account screenshots.
  • If you were asked to pay a tax, a fee or a credit repair charge to release a withdrawal, say so explicitly in your report. That demand is the clearest evidence of fraud.
  • Before depositing with any broker, check the regulator's own register yourself and confirm the company name and website match exactly.
