Saxo: Danish FSA licence 1149

Professional status at Saxo requires two of three criteria: a portfolio above EUR 500,000, at least 10 qualifying trades per quarter over the last four quarters, or relevant professional experience. Professional clients trade on lower margins, but the retail leverage limits and negative balance protection no longer apply to them, and portfolio-based margin is offered to professional clients only.

Saxo Bank A/S clients file complaints inside SaxoTrader or SaxoInvestor, while prospective and former clients use the online complaint form or write to Saxo Bank A/S, Att.: Complaints, Philip Heymans Alle 15, 2900 Hellerup, Denmark. Saxo says a Global Complaints Officer handles complaints, and one it does not resolve can be taken to the Danish Financial Complaint Board in Copenhagen. Saxo publishes no email address for complaints.

Saxo's website says the J. Safra Sarasin Group has completed its acquisition of Saxo and now owns it in full. The parent company is Saxo Bank A/S, listed on the Danish Central Business Register (CVR) under number 15731249, incorporated on 1 April 1992 and registered at Philip Heymans Alle 15, 2900 Hellerup, as checked on 28 October 2026. Your client agreement is with the Saxo company for your country of residence and is governed by that company's law, for example Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd in the UK, Saxo Bank (Schweiz) AG in Switzerland, Saxo Capital Markets Pte. Ltd. in Singapore and Saxo Bank Securities Ltd. in Japan.

Yes. Saxo offers a 20-day demo account on SaxoTrader with a simulated USD 100,000, which you can sign up for on its website.

Saxo uses its own platforms, SaxoTrader and SaxoInvestor, on one login: SaxoTrader carries the full product range on web, iOS, Android, Windows and Mac, and SaxoInvestor is a simpler investing app on web, iOS and Android. You can also trade from TradingView or MultiCharts with a Saxo login, and developers can use SaxoOpenAPI, a FIX API or an Excel add-in. Saxo's platform pages name no MetaTrader 4, MetaTrader 5 or cTrader.

Not for ordinary deposits and platform withdrawals: Saxo's fee schedule lists both at EUR 0, though charges from your own or an intermediary bank fall on you because transfers are made as shared-cost payments. Saxo's own documents add exceptions: its client funds transfer request form says a USD 40 service fee is charged when a client who has access to the platform's withdrawal module withdraws by form instead, and its card factsheet says an administrative fee of up to 2.5% may apply to cards issued outside the EEA, while cards issued in the EEA are free. Converting currency costs 0.25% on Saxo's international fee schedule, while its Middle East pricing page allows up to 0.50%.

Saxo processes most withdrawal requests the same day: under its General Business Terms, requests received by 14:00 CET on a business day are processed that day and later ones on the next business day. A domestic transfer then takes 1 to 2 business days to arrive, cross-border payments can take longer, and withdrawing your full balance can add up to 3 business days. Withdrawals are paid only to a verified bank account in your name.

You can fund a Saxo account by bank transfer, SEPA Instant transfer in euros (up to EUR 100,000), a transfer from a digital bank such as Revolut or Wise, a Visa or Mastercard card or, in Denmark, Quick payment with MitID. The first deposit must be a bank transfer from an account in your own name in your country of residence, and cards and digital banks can only be used after that. Cards are for deposits only, and Saxo's funding pages name no e-wallets or crypto funding.

Saxo's trading costs fall with each account tier: US stocks and ETFs cost 0.08% on Classic, 0.05% on Platinum and 0.03% on VIP, with a USD 1 minimum, and stock options cost USD 2.00, USD 1.00 and USD 0.75 per contract. For major forex pairs the account pages quote 1, 0.9 and 0.7 pips by tier, while Saxo's FX pricing page gives EURUSD from 1.1, 0.9 and 0.8 pips. Futures cost from USD 1 per contract, index, commodity and bond CFDs carry no commission, and there is no account opening, maintenance or inactivity fee. Currency conversion costs 0.25% on the international fee schedule and up to 0.50% on Saxo's Middle East pricing page, and assets left in an account after the termination date Saxo sets are charged EUR 15 a month.

Saxo prices all its accounts in three tiers: Classic, the default; Platinum, from EUR 200,000 or 120,000 reward points; and VIP, from EUR 1,000,000 or 500,000 points. Each step up lowers commissions and spreads, Platinum adds priority support and VIP adds invitations to exclusive events, and individual, joint and corporate accounts all use these tiers. The tier cards state the thresholds in euros, while a worked example in Saxo's rewards FAQ uses the same figures in US dollars.

Saxo has no minimum deposit for an individual account on its international site: the Classic tier requires no minimum funding. A joint account needs an initial deposit of EUR 50,000, and the minimum for a corporate account depends on your country of residence. Depositing EUR 200,000 or EUR 1,000,000 within your first 30 days places you in the Platinum or VIP tier, which have lower prices.

Yes. Saxo only opens accounts for residents of the 42 countries on its account-opening form, mostly in Europe plus Australia, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Malaysia, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand and the UAE. It does not serve US persons, and its help centre says access is blocked from Cuba, Iran, North Korea, Sudan, Syria, Ukraine, Yemen, Russia, Belarus and Myanmar. Saxo's Hong Kong company stopped opening new accounts on 30 September 2024, although Hong Kong is still offered on the international form.

Clients contact Saxo through the chat inside SaxoTrader or SaxoInvestor: a chatbot answers first and can connect you to a Client Services agent, usually within a minute, and Saxo's help centre says the chatbot is available 24/7. Saxo lists local phone numbers on its contact page, including +45 3977 4000 for its headquarters in Denmark, and takes non-urgent requests as support cases, which it says can take up to 10 days to answer. Its help centre is at www.help.saxo.

Saxo's maximum leverage for retail clients is 1:30. Clients Saxo classifies as professional trade on lower margins, from 1.5% (66:1) on major forex pairs and major indices, 2% (50:1) on minor pairs, 3.5% (28:1) on gold and 6% (16:1) on equities, and Saxo's pages say they give up the retail leverage limits and negative balance protection. Saxo's General Business Terms also state that losses on margin positions can substantially exceed the money and collateral held with Saxo and that a negative cash balance must be covered immediately.

Saxo offers stocks, ETFs, mutual funds, bonds, listed options, futures, commodities, forex and CFDs. Its trading conditions list 185 forex pairs and some 8,500 CFDs on stocks, ETFs, indices, commodities and bonds. Saxo says product availability varies by country of residence, client classification and local regulatory requirements.

Yes, Saxo is regulated: six Saxo companies were confirmed on their regulators' own registers when checked on 28 October 2026.

• Saxo Bank A/S, the Danish parent, licence no. 1149 from the Danish Financial Supervisory Authority (Finanstilsynet).
• Saxo Capital Markets UK Ltd, authorised by the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), firm reference number 551422.

• Saxo Bank Securities Ltd., registered in Japan as a financial instruments business operator, Kanto Local Finance Bureau Director (Kinsho) No. 239.

Which company holds your account, and so which regulator and client protection apply, depends on your country of residence. Regulation does not remove trading risk: Saxo's General Business Terms state that losses on margin positions can exceed the money and collateral you hold with Saxo.
