About this FSCA licence

What this authorisation is, what it establishes, and what it leaves open.

In South Africa, the STARTRADER authorisation is held by a separate, locally registered company: STARTRADER INTERNATIONAL PTY LTD, which the Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA) lists as Financial Services Provider number 52464. On 21 October 2026, the register showed the provider as Authorized, with a Date Authorised of 23 September 2022.

The FSCA is South Africa's market conduct regulator, and its FAIS register lists financial services providers with their authorisation status. For this provider the Products Approved section lists CATEGORY I, with every product marked under Advice Non-automated and Intermediary Other. The list covers Shares, Bonds and Derivative instruments as well as long-term and short-term insurance and pension products.

An entry here records an authorisation granted to a named company. It says nothing about that company's solvency, conduct or service quality, and an entry alone does not prove the authorisation is still in force on a later date. The authorisation covers STARTRADER INTERNATIONAL PTY LTD, registration number 2022/435897/07. It does not automatically extend to other STARTRADER companies, such as the Seychelles-incorporated STARTRADER Limited, or to every website using the brand.

The register shows an FSP Type of Company - Private, the registration number above, a Date Authorised of 23/09/2022, and a physical address in Sandown, Sandton, Gauteng with a telephone number. The Trading Name field was blank. No expiry date is printed at all: FAIS authorisations do not run to a fixed term and stay in place until they lapse or are suspended or withdrawn.

To check independently, open the FSCA's FSP search at www2.fsca.co.za, enter 52464 as the FSP number and open Details, which shows the authorisation date and the contact and product sections. If the status moves from Authorized to Lapsed, Suspended or Withdrawn, or the name or registration number on the record changes, the licence position has changed.

Written from what the issuing authority's own register published when we last read it. It describes a record, not the firm's conduct, and it is not advice.

FSCA is classed as an offshore regime. An offshore registration can be entirely legitimate, but it typically means lower capital requirements, no compensation scheme, and a complaint route that is harder to use from abroad.

Frequently Asked Questions

Questions about this licence

Answered from this register entry and the authority’s own record.

Most Popular Questions

STARTRADER archives a live trading account automatically when there has been no login or trading activity for 90 days or more and the balance is 10 units of the account currency or less (1,000 USC on a USC account). An archived account cannot be reactivated or restored, so you would need to open a new live account in the Client Portal to keep trading.

Yes. Under the STARTRADER Limited client agreement, forex positions held overnight are charged or credited a swap based on the bought and sell swap rates, while spot CFDs use a reference rate equal to the liquidity provider's interest rate plus a STARTRADER transaction fee of 3.5% per year (clauses 1.3, 5.1 and 5.2). No swap is charged on a forex position opened and closed on the same trading day, and swap-free accounts pay an administration fee instead.

Yes, in some circumstances. Clause 1.4(b)(v) of the STARTRADER Limited client agreement lets STARTRADER suspend an account, recover losses and void orders and cancel the associated profits with immediate effect if it has reasonable grounds to suspect Suspicious Trading Activity, which the agreement defines as a belief of STARTRADER, reasonably formed and whether or not communicated to the client. Its default events also include using the same IP address as another client and use of excessive leverage, and the Swap-Free Accounts policy allows improper profits to be deducted where STARTRADER suspects abuse of a swap-free account.

Only for customers of one group company, STARTRADER Financial Markets Limited, according to the evidence of cover STARTRADER publishes. Its Client Fund Protection page advertises USD 30,000,000 of Lloyd's of London cover in the event of insolvency, and the certificate names STARTRADER Financial Markets Limited of Mauritius as the insured for 1 October 2026 to 30 September 2027. The USD 30,000,000 is the maximum aggregate for all claimants, a retention of at least USD 20,000 applies to each claimant, and the certificate states that it confers no rights and that the policy contains important limitations and exclusions.

Partly, according to its client agreement. Clause 2.7 of the STARTRADER Limited agreement says client money is paid into a segregated client bank account when the law requires it, that client funds are kept apart from STARTRADER's own funds but may be pooled in one account at a third-party institution, and that this segregation does not fully protect them from loss. Clause 2.7(h) adds that money paid in connection with an order, a margin call or a deposit is not 'client money' but buys a 'Reciprocal Obligation' from STARTRADER.

Only at its discretion. STARTRADER's accounts page lists negative balance protection on the STANDARD account, but clause 11 of the STARTRADER Limited client agreement says that if a market gap leaves an account negative, STARTRADER will evaluate the client's inquiry and may, at its discretion, credit the negative balance where the debit arose during normal trading. The policy is for Private Clients only and does not apply in abnormal market conditions or exceptional volatility. Under the same clause a margin call starts when margin falls below 100%, and STARTRADER starts closing positions at 50%.

Yes. STARTRADER offers free STP or ECN demo accounts in USD, GBP, CAD, EUR or JPY, with a virtual balance of up to 1,000,000 and leverage of up to 500:1. MT4 demo accounts expire after 30 days, and MT5 demo accounts after 30 days without a login.

STARTRADER's Help Center says to email info@startrader.com from your registered email address, while its Complaints Handling Policy gives trading@startrader.com as the complaints address. The policy promises a written acknowledgement within 7 calendar days and a written response within 30 calendar days, which can be extended by up to 30 more. If the complaint is not resolved, the policy allows it to be escalated to the Financial Commission.

STARTRADER offers trading in forex, commodities, indices, shares and ETFs. Its account comparison table lists more than 50 currency pairs, 700 stocks, 10 commodities and 20 indices on all three live accounts.

Yes. STAR Copy runs in the STARTRADER app and the Client Portal: copying is free, a performance fee is paid only on profit, and the broker says copying can start from USD 10, with each strategy setting its own minimum. STARTRADER also runs a separate system, STARTRADER Copy Trade, with its own web portal, and lists a PAMM service called Pro-Link.

No. STARTRADER's Help Center states that scalping is not allowed on the STARTRADER platform. Expert Advisors can be used on the desktop versions of MT4 and MT5.

Yes, but they are not free of overnight charges. STARTRADER's Swap-Free Accounts policy charges an administration fee once a trade on the listed forex pairs, gold or silver has been held for more than 14 calendar days, and every day on all other products, and its Help Center says the amount varies by instrument and position and is set by the liquidity provider. Swap-free accounts are not available in China, South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam, Japan or the Philippines, or to institutional and corporate clients, and STARTRADER can cancel the service at any time or, where it suspects abuse, charge the fee retroactively and deduct profits.

STARTRADER says it generally processes a withdrawal within 24 hours of approving the request and that funds usually arrive within 1 to 7 business days; its Help Center estimates, counted from approval, are about 1 business day for e-wallets, 1 to 3 for local bank transfers, 3 to 7 for cards and 3 to 5 for international wires. Its Deposit and Withdrawal Policy lets it hold a withdrawal while a chargeback, dispute or investigation is pending. STARTRADER says it charges no deposit fees and, in most countries, no withdrawal fees, but its pages differ on international wires: about USD 20 in bank charges on the funding page, 25 units of the account currency per withdrawal in the Help Center, and no STARTRADER fee but a typical USD 25 bank charge in the policy. The policy also lets it charge merchant or handling fees when deposits are withdrawn with little or no trading.

STARTRADER accepts Visa and Mastercard, international bank wire, local bank transfer where available, and e-wallets: its funding page names Stickpay, PM and Wise, and its Deposit and Withdrawal Policy also names Skrill and Neteller. UnionPay is available to clients in China only. The methods you can use depend on your country and account currency, and payments must come from and go back to an account in your own name.

On the STANDARD account, spreads start from 1.3 pips and no commission is charged except on indices. The ECN account has tighter spreads and a commission per lot whose amount the accounts page does not state. Prime ECN spreads start from 0.0 pips, with a commission of USD 2 per side per standard forex or gold lot, or USD 4 per round turn.

STARTRADER offers three live accounts, STANDARD, ECN and Prime ECN, plus a free demo account. STANDARD is aimed at newer traders, ECN at high-volume traders and money managers, and Prime ECN at experienced traders with at least USD 10,000, who upgrade to it from an existing account. Prime ECN status is kept only with at least 5 closed trades and USD 500,000 of notional volume within a continuous 30-day period in the past 90 days.

STARTRADER is a brand used by a group of companies, and the broker assigns each client to one of them according to where they live. The client agreements on www.startrader.com are with STARTRADER Limited of Seychelles (registration number 8427362-1 according to the broker's site), a company WIKILIX matched to the Seychelles FSA register of Securities Dealers on 21 October 2026, and with STARTRADER Financial Markets Limited of Mauritius (company number 212229 GBC). The site's footer also names STARTRADER International Pty Ltd in South Africa and STARTRADER (CY) Limited in Cyprus, which states that it offers no regulated financial products or trading services.

Yes. STARTRADER's Help Center says it does not accept clients from the United States and its territories, Cuba, Iran, Laos, Myanmar, North Korea, Singapore or Hong Kong. The broker adds that the list can change and may vary with the STARTRADER company that holds your account.

STARTRADER offers leverage from 1:30 up to 1:1000, with 1:500 as the default. The level depends on your region, account type and the regulations that apply to you, and the broker says 1:1000 is subject to eligibility and not offered in all jurisdictions. Leverage may be cut from 1:1000 to 1:500 once account equity reaches USD 45,000, and it is reduced around high-impact news and the weekly market open and close.

STARTRADER support is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year by live chat, on the website and in the STARTRADER app, and by email at info@startrader.com. The broker says it aims to reply to emails within 2 hours.

STARTRADER does not publish a single minimum deposit for its STANDARD and ECN accounts: its Help Center says minimum and maximum deposit amounts vary by payment method and are shown in the Client Portal. The Prime ECN account requires a balance of at least USD 10,000 and is reached by upgrading an existing account rather than opening it directly.

STARTRADER offers MetaTrader 4 and MetaTrader 5 for Windows, Mac, iOS and Android, plus MT4 and MT5 WebTrader in the browser. It also has its own STARTRADER app for iOS and Android, which works with MT4, MT5 and STAR Copy accounts, and its own browser platform, STAR Web Trading. cTrader and TradingView are not offered.

STARTRADER's licences are held by four group companies, and WIKILIX confirmed each of them on the regulator's own register on 21 October 2026:

  • STARTRADER Limited: Securities Dealer licence SD049 from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) of Seychelles.
  • STARTRADER Financial Markets Limited: licence GB24203371 from the Financial Services Commission (FSC) of Mauritius, granted on 20 August 2024.
  • STARTRADER International Pty Ltd: Financial Services Provider 52464 with South Africa's Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), for Category I advice and intermediary services only.
  • STARTRADER Global Financial Consultation & Financial Analysis: a Category 5 licence from the UAE Capital Market Authority, listed under code CP-0001206, for consultations, introduction and promotion only. STARTRADER's site quotes the number 20200000241, which the register record does not show.

Only the Seychelles and Mauritius companies hold dealing licences and contract with clients under the agreements on www.startrader.com, and which one holds your account depends on where you live.

Licence 52464 was issued by Financial Sector Conduct Authority (FSCA), the financial authority for South Africa.
STARTRADER holds this FSCA licence. A licence on record means the authority published an entry; it is not an endorsement.
We located this entry on the FSCA register. Note that confirming a register ENTRY is not the same as confirming a live licence — the register’s own wording on this page is what states its current standing.
The FSCA register prints it under STARTRADER INTERNATIONAL PTY LTD, not STARTRADER. Licences are often held by a subsidiary rather than the trading brand, which is why searching a register for the brand alone can return nothing.
Wikilix rates FSCA tier 2: a well-established regime with real supervision, usually with lower compensation limits than a tier-1 authority.
Yes, FSCA is classed as an offshore regime. That can be a legitimate registration, but it usually means lower capital requirements, no compensation scheme, and a complaint route that is harder to use from abroad.
STARTRADER has 3 other licences on record with Wikilix, across 3 jurisdictions. They are listed further down this page.
