Verification note

Confirmed on the ASIC register as TRAVELEX LIMITED (Australian financial services licence). The ASIC record prints the principal website https://www.travelex.com.au, the same domain as the broker's website travelex.com.au; its licence number 222444 matches the AFSL claimed for Travelex, and its ABN 36 004 179 953 matches Travelex Limited's registered ABN. The register records the licence as effective from 9 October 2002.

About this ASIC licence

What this authorisation is, what it establishes, and what it leaves open.

Commenced on 9 October 2002, Australian financial services licence 222444 is held by TRAVELEX LIMITED, ABN 36 004 179 953, on the register kept by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC). As at this check on 28 October 2026, ASIC's Professional Registers Search showed the licence as CURRENT, with https://www.travelex.com.au as the licensee's principal website.

ASIC is Australia's statutory regulator for companies, markets and financial services, and its search spans several registers; only an entry on the register of Australian financial services licensees is an AFS licence. The conditions on this one authorise the licensee to provide financial product advice on, and to deal in, basic deposit products, non-cash payment products, derivatives, foreign exchange contracts and general insurance products, and to make a market for foreign exchange contracts and derivatives, for retail and wholesale clients.

The entry shows that ASIC lists this licence against this company and records what it covers. It is not a statement about the company's solvency or conduct, and the authorisation reaches only the services, products and client types in its conditions and the Australian company that holds it, not other Travelex companies or business carried on outside Australia.

The record printed ACN 004 179 953, a principal place of business at 25 Martin Place, NSW 2000, and licence conditions as at 21/11/2003. Its business names include TRAVELEX WORLDWIDE MONEY, TRAVELEX COMMERCIAL FOREIGN EXCHANGE, CASHCORP FOREIGN EXCHANGE and HOLIDAY MONEY. It printed no expiry date, as an AFS licence carries none, and no telephone number.

To confirm it, search licence number 222444 or the ABN on ASIC's Professional Registers Search at service.asic.gov.au and check that the Register field reads Australian financial services licensees and the status reads CURRENT. A cancellation, suspension or variation of the licence, or a change of the licensee's name, would show on that record and change this answer.

Most Popular Questions

The Travelex Money Card is issued by EML Payment Solutions Limited (ABN 30 131 436 532, AFSL 404131) and distributed by Mastercard Prepaid Management Services Australia Pty Ltd (ABN 47 145 452 044, AFSL 386 837), according to its product disclosure statement, and buying the card creates a contract with EML. Travelex Limited sells the card as an agent of Mastercard Prepaid and, the disclosure says, is not authorised by the issuer or Mastercard Prepaid to give advice about it. The card is not a deposit account with the issuer and earns no interest.

Complaints about Travelex orders go to the Retail Customer Service Centre on 1800 440 039 or to TravelMoneyOnline@travelex.com.au, according to the Online Terms and Conditions. Travelex Money Card complaints are handled by Mastercard Prepaid, which aims to resolve them within 21 days and gives a written outcome within 30 days when a complaint is not resolved within 5 business days. If the matter is still not resolved, the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA) can be reached on 1800 931 678.

Travelex has no trading platform, and no MetaTrader, cTrader or other trading software appears on travelex.com.au. Its free Travelex Money App, on the Apple App Store and Google Play, is for managing the Travelex Money Card: topping it up, moving money between currency wallets at Travelex's retail rate, checking the balance and history, freezing the card and adding it to Google Pay. The same card services are available on the web through My Account.

Yes, but only in a Travelex store: Travelex buys back foreign bank notes at its buy rate on the day, and currency cannot be sold back online. Money left on a Travelex Money Card is returned by closing the card through Card Services or, after it expires, refunded in Australian dollars in a Travelex store or online, or moved to a new card; closing the card or withdrawing its balance costs 10 AUD, a fee set and charged by Mastercard Prepaid. Card holders identified with a foreign identity document, or without an Australian bank account or Australian-issued card, can cash out only at participating Travelex stores, so the card's disclosure tells non-residents who bought it in an Australian store to have any remaining balance refunded before leaving Australia.

A paid foreign cash order cannot be cancelled, but you can sell the cash back in a Travelex store at that day's buy rate, without a refund of the original fees. A Travelex Money Card ordered for collection in a store can be cancelled before you collect it and is refunded at the buy rate, while delivered card orders and completed online top-ups cannot be cancelled. Refunds go only to the card or account that paid and may take up to 10 business days.

The Online Terms and Conditions allow foreign cash orders of 350 to 10,050 AUD, with at most 10,050 AUD in 24 hours and 30,000 AUD in 21 days, and card top-ups of 50 to 10,050 AUD. The Travelex FAQ quotes lower limits in most answers, a maximum of 5,000 AUD per order and 20,000 AUD per rolling 21 days. A Travelex Money Card can hold up to 50,000 AUD and take up to 75,000 AUD in loads every 12 months.

The Travelex Money Card is free to buy, and top-ups made online or in the Travelex Money App are free; Australian-dollar loads and top-ups in a store cost 1.1% or 15 AUD, whichever is greater, and a BPAY top-up not booked through the website or app costs 1%. The card's fee table lists no Travelex fee for ATM or EFTPOS use and no currency conversion fee, although ATM operators may charge and a purchase in a currency the card does not hold enough of is converted at the Travelex Spend Rate. An inactivity fee of 4 AUD a month starts after 12 months without a transaction, and closing the card or withdrawing its balance costs 10 AUD, a fee set and charged by Mastercard Prepaid.

Travelex accepts PayID, BPAY, a physical Visa or Mastercard debit card in your own name, and Apple Pay linked to such a card, according to its Online Terms and Conditions; prepaid and virtual cards and third-party payments are refused. PayID and BPAY orders carry no fee, and the FAQ shows no surcharge on debit cards, although the Travelex Money Card disclosure says a card surcharge may apply to online loads and top-ups. Some pages also mention credit cards for card top-ups and list Google Pay, while the terms name debit cards only and the Google Pay page says currency cannot yet be added to the card through Google Pay.

Travelex in Australia is operated by Travelex Limited (ACN 004 179 953, ABN 36 004 179 953), at Suite 45.01, Level 45, 25 Martin Place, Sydney NSW 2000. The Australian Business Register and ASIC company data list the company as TRAVELEX LIMITED, incorporated on 19 July 1932, as checked by WIKILIX on 28 October 2026. According to Travelex, it is wholly owned by Travelex Australia Holdings Pty Ltd (ABN 98 105 260 035), a subsidiary of Travelex International Limited, which is incorporated in the United Kingdom.

No. Travelex Limited, which runs travelex.com.au, is a retail currency exchange and travel money business that sells foreign currency cash and the prepaid Travelex Money Card. It offers no trading accounts, trading platforms, leverage or spreads. An offer of a trading account, trading signals or investment returns made in the Travelex name is not a service travelex.com.au describes.

Yes. The Travelex online service at travelex.com.au is only for individuals aged 14 or over who are resident in, and accessing it from, Australia, and the card's product disclosure statement says that to apply for a Travelex Money Card you must have a residential address in Australia. The same disclosure also sets rules for card holders identified with a foreign identity document: they can reload the card and cash out its balance only at participating Travelex stores, and non-residents who bought it in an Australian store should have any remaining balance refunded before leaving Australia. Travelex is not a trading service, and its websites for other countries, such as travelex.co.jp, operated by Travelex Japan KK, are separate sites.

Travelex offers phone and email support, but no live chat. Its customer service line, 1800 440 039, is open 24/7 according to the contact page, while the Online Terms and Conditions give Monday to Friday 7am to 7pm and Saturday and Sunday 9am to 5pm (AEST); email at retailcscaust.nz@travelex.com is answered Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. Travelex Money Card Services is available 24 hours a day on 1800 303 297, and the site links Facebook and Instagram as its social channels.

Travelex does not offer leverage. It sells foreign currency cash and the prepaid Travelex Money Card, with no trading accounts, margin or CFDs, and its Online Terms and Conditions say the online service is for personal use, such as a holiday, and cannot be used for speculative or investment purposes.

Travelex has no trading account, so there is no minimum deposit in the broker sense; what applies are order minimums. Foreign cash ordered online starts at 350 AUD. A new Travelex Money Card needs a first load of at least 500 AUD online or in the app according to the Online Terms and Conditions and the card limits table, while the Travelex FAQ gives 350 AUD; in a store the minimum load is 100 AUD, and top-ups start at 50 AUD.

Travelex Limited is regulated by the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) under Australian Financial Services Licence 222444, which ASIC's register showed as current when WIKILIX checked it on 28 October 2026. It is not a trading service, though: travelex.com.au sells foreign currency cash and the prepaid Travelex Money Card, offers no trading accounts, and its Online Terms and Conditions rule out speculative or investment use. A licence is not a guarantee on its own, and complaints that Travelex does not resolve can go to the Australian Financial Complaints Authority (AFCA).

Licence 222444 was issued by Australia Securities & Investment Commission (ASIC), the financial authority for Australia.
Travelex holds this ASIC licence. A licence on record means the authority published an entry; it is not an endorsement.
We located this entry on the ASIC register. Note that confirming a register ENTRY is not the same as confirming a live licence — the register’s own wording on this page is what states its current standing.
The ASIC register prints it under TRAVELEX LIMITED, not Travelex. Licences are often held by a subsidiary rather than the trading brand, which is why searching a register for the brand alone can return nothing.
Wikilix rates ASIC tier 1 — the strictest band, with high capital requirements, segregated client money and a compensation scheme.
This page links straight to the ASIC register. Search it for 222444, and for the name TRAVELEX LIMITED rather than the trading brand.
