Leave your account untouched for three months and YWO starts charging a monthly fee. It is $10 if your balance is under $999.99, and $50 if it is $1,000 or more. The charge repeats until your money is gone.
Why this matters
Stop trading for three months and YWO takes $50 a month from a $1,000 balance. It keeps taking it until nothing is left.
Exhibit 1Every flagged clause gets its own number so you can point at this one. The number does not change, so a link to it keeps working.CriticalHow much this clause can cost you, in our reading. Critical can take your money or your profit. Warning can delay or limit it. Notice is simply worth knowing before you sign.Rarely seenHow ordinary this wording looks next to the contracts we read. This is our reading of the clause, not a count of other brokers.$50The figure this clause puts a number on, taken from the broker's own words.
An inactivity fee will be charged monthly on trading accounts only, starting after 3 months of inactivity, as follows:
What it costsThe same clause worked out on a round number, so you can see it in money or in days. It is an example, not a quotation.A $1,000 balance left untouched loses $50 a month. After twelve months of no trading, $600 of it is gone in fees alone.
Firms licensed by the FCA and CySEC must set out all costs and charges to a retail client before they trade. YWO puts the amount in a separate General Fees page, and the Client Agreement clause that creates the fee never states a figure.
YWO is not licensed by these regulators, so this is a comparison of practice, not a finding of any breach.
Our readingOur own comment on the clause, not the broker's words. Anything we quote is marked as a quotation. Most inactivity fees are a flat monthly amount. YWO scales the fee with your balance, so a larger account pays five times more, and the charge continues until the balance reaches zero.
What happens, and whenThe Trigger column is what has to happen first. Once that point is reached, the broker may do what the next column says. Every rung names the clause it came from, so you can check it.
| Trigger | What the broker may then do | Clause |
|---|---|---|
| 0 to 2 months | No inactivity fee is charged. | 2 |
| 3 months or more | YWO charges $10 a month if your balance is under $999.99, or $50 a month if it is $1,000 or more. | 2 |
| 12 months or more | YWO classes the account as dormant. | 2 |
| Balance depleted | The monthly charge continues until your balance reaches zero or YWO refunds it. | 2 |
