The MajandusTegevuse Register (MTR), also known as the Register of Economic Activities, serves as the official regulatory registry for businesses in Estonia that conduct economic activities requiring notification or licensing under a national legal framework. The MTR was created to facilitate enforcement by authorities, ensuring transparency for operators across various industries, including financial services, cryptocurrency, gambling, and forex brokers.
The MTR is established as required by the Economic Activities Code, following the repeal of the former Register of Economic Activities Act. It creates reporting requirements for licensing and notification of economic activities, categorises economic operators, and prescribes the parameters of supervision and the liability stipulated by legislation. The Economic Activities Code governs the process for commencing, continuing, suspending, or terminating economic activities while ensuring the accurate maintenance of the register.
