Euro Finance advertises negative balance protection on its CFD pages in English and Bulgarian. If your account goes below zero, you have to pay the shortfall back. Clause IX.9 of the General Terms adds 0.1% of that balance for every day you are late.
Negative balance protection is a limit that stops you owing more than you put in. Without it, one fast market move can leave you owing the broker money on top of your deposit.
Why this matters
A loss bigger than your deposit can leave you owing Euro Finance money rather than sitting at zero. The penalty runs every day until the account is back above zero, and the MetaTrader 5 rules say the same thing.
Exhibit 1Every flagged clause gets its own number so you can point at this one. The number does not change, so a link to it keeps working.CriticalHow much this clause can cost you, in our reading. Critical can take your money or your profit. Warning can delay or limit it. Notice is simply worth knowing before you sign.Rarely seenHow ordinary this wording looks next to the contracts we read. This is our reading of the clause, not a count of other brokers.0.1%The figure this clause puts a number on, taken from the broker's own words.
The client shall be obliged to cover the shortfall in his account and shall also be liable for a penalty of 0.1% on the negative balance for each day of delay.
Buried at section 37 of 60 in the General terms of business, 62% of the way through. We counted the numbered sections in the General terms of business. This clause sits in section 37 of 60, about 62% of the way through. A fee written on the first page and the same fee written near the end are not the same disclosure.
What it costsThe same clause worked out on a round number, so you can see it in money or in days. It is an example, not a quotation.A negative balance of 500 euro left for 30 days adds 15 euro of penalty, on top of the 500 euro you have to pay back.
Firms applying the retail rules for contracts for difference in the European Union cap a retail client's loss at the money in the trading account. This contract requires the client to cover the shortfall and adds 0.1% a day.
Euro Finance is not licensed by these regulators, so this is a comparison of practice, not a finding of any breach.
Our readingOur own comment on the clause, not the broker's words. Anything we quote is marked as a quotation.Retail contracts for difference in the European Union normally write a negative balance off. This one asks for the money back and charges a daily penalty until it is paid.
- Worse together with Exhibit 7Read these two clauses together. Each one costs more because the other exists.Euro Finance closes your positions at prices you agreed to in advance, and whatever shortfall that leaves is the balance you then owe.
