Broker Summary

Summary of the broker

Introduction

M&G has a long and successful track record in investment management, having been involved in this field for almost 100 years. Their main focus is on helping clients build long-term wealth through the use of investment funds, savings plans and tax-efficient wrappers. Unlike most active trading brokers who provide a wide range of trading platforms including forex, CFDs, stocks, etc., M&G does not offer these types of products. However, they provide retail and institutional clients with disciplined, strategic investment solutions that are suitable for all types of investors.

M&G has been a leader in providing disciplined investment and asset management services to retail investors since the introduction of fast-paced online trading platforms. In this article, we will examine M&G's history and performs, the regulatory structure within which they operate and how they position themselves within the overall context of the financial services industry.

A Brief History of M&G

M&G was established in 1931 with the launch of the first European mutual fund (a mutual fund is a way for individual investors to pool their resources together so that they can invest together). Since that time, M&G has become one of the largest asset managers in the UK, with a global presence.

In the past 70 years, M&G has developed a variety of different types of investment vehicles that serve a variety of different clientele, including retail investors, non-profitM&G Securities Limited, M&G’s subsidiary, operates under English law with regard to the regulation and supervision of the English Financial Authorities. M&G ensures that the business operates within a framework of sound governance and compliance with established industry best practices.

• Investment Products

M&G produce long-term investment products as opposed to active trading instruments; open-ended investment companies ('OEICs'), ISA's, Junior ISAs, general investment accounts, unit trust, etc are included in the M&G portfolio. The product range allows M&G to cater for investors from beginners to institutional investors who wish to achieve diversified asset management solutions.

Contributions to the investor's account can be made either as one-off payments or via Direct Debit, and all investors have the flexibility to top-up, switch funds, withdraw or transfer their money. M&G’s flexibility encourages disciplined investment, allowing clients to amend their investments over time without needing instant access to trading systems.

• Client Segments

M&G’s target client segments include the following:

• Private investors looking to establish tax-efficient savings/investment plans

• Professional advisers managing client investment portfolios

• Institutional investors such as pension funds, insurance companies and charity organisations

• Corporate clients requiring trust and asset management services

As opposed to a traditional broker, M&G does not provide clients with trading accounts/stocks, forex or CFD's. M&G operates only on a fund-based investment strategy.

Regulatory Compliance and Licensing

All companies and individuals conducting the business of investing in the UK are closely monitored by a dedicated regulatory authority. For M&G and all subsidiaries, the regulatory authorities are the PRA and FCA.Organisation:

Trading Conditions and Platform Technology

Trading Conditions

It should be made clear that M&G is not a trading Broker and does not provide trading conditions usually associated with Forex e.g. Spreads/Leveraged/Minimum Deposits, etc. M&G does not have any spread/leveraged/minimum deposits regard to any trading instrument. Deposits can be as little as £1 for Lump Sum or Direct Debit contributions, thereby giving maximum access to all long-term investors.

Platform Technology:

M&G offer a Digital Investment Platform (myM&G) for customers to manage their investments online. Customers can log on 24 hours per day & 7 days per week to complete various functions regarding their investments i.e. investing via Lumpsums, setting up regular Direct Debit contributions, making "top ups", switching funds, withdrawing funds or transferring their investment.

In addition to myM&G, the My Account function provides valuation tools, access to previous transactions, and the ability for customers to update their personal details. Customers can also communicate with M&G using the instant messaging, as well as secure messaging and email options available on the site for added support. However, M&G does not provide customers with Mobile apps or advanced trading tools as would be expected from typical active trading brokers. The Minimum Investment or Lump sum Investment is £1 and can be made as a Lump sum or Direct Debit. Trading Instruments are Not applicable. Investors may not trade forex, CFDs, or Stocks. Access to the Platform is via myM&G which is available 24-7, allowing for Fund Management, Messaging etc. A Mobile App for M&G is Not available therefore there are No specific mobile applications to use.

M&G’s Fee Structure is unlike any Trading brokers as Fees charged by M&G do not include Commissions or Spreads, but rather the Ongoing Charge; this Ongoing Charge includes both the Management Charges and Administration Charges and varies between Funds, which are disclosed in the Fund Documentation which can be accessed via the myM&G platform.

There are no explicit Deposit, Withdrawal or Inactivity Fees stated, nor are there any limitations on how to invest (online or via Post). New Applications can only be made using Debit Card payment methods to expedite the payment process. The manner in which M&G implements the Ongoing Charge and does not charge for Trading Commissions aligns with its philosophy of Long-Term Investor and not Short Term Trader.

Ongoing Charges: deducted from Funds; they are Management and Administration Fees; these can vary by Fund. Deposit Fee: None Specified: Investments are Allowed to be made via Debit Card & by Direct Debit. Withdrawal Fee: None Specified. Withdrawals are Allowed by either the myM&G platform or via Post. Inactivity Fee: None Specified; therefore, there are No charges on Dormant Accounts.

Customer Experience and Market Reputation: M&G has built a Good Reputation on over 30 years of experience managing Investments for a Variety of Customers- from Charitable Organisations to Institutional Investors. With its low minimum investment threshold and digital management capabilities, the M&G platform is accessible to a wide range of investors; its tax-advantaged categories, like ISAs further increases its appeal.

Although it has limited customer reviews and ratings due to the fact there aren’t any publicly available, the company has a long-standing track record and is compliant with financial regulations, which gives investors confidence in M&G as an investment provider. Prospective clients need to be aware that M&G is not designed for active traders looking for immediate execution of trades or leveraging investments. In addition to digital transactions, M&G also offers the option of a paper process, although the paper processing times will likely be longer than the digital processing times.

M&G has also taken a proactive approach to identifying and pursuing fraudulent and impersonation scams as part of their commitment to protecting their clients.

What’s New

M&G has been working over the past several months to improve client communication and transparency. In October 2025, clients will receive personalized investment statements that reflect their investment valuations as of April 5, 2025; they will provide clients with insight into their portfolio performance and investment returns.

Furthermore, M&G has issued warnings regarding potential fraudulent activity pertaining to the creation of fake M&G applications (apps) and websites; these scams primarily target clients located in India and Brazil. In several of these instances, M&G has reported these fraudulent activities to both the FCA, and to law enforcement officials.

There has been a history of certain funds being suspended or closed over time due to fund management and regulatory compliance issues, highlighting the ever-evolving landscape of the Funds industry. M&G would encourage all investors to remain informed about their investments by following all official M&G channels.

Final Thoughts

M&G is an established institution in the investment management Industry, with a wide range of investment products designed specifically for long-term investors and not for active traders. The nearly-century old, institutionalized history of M&G along with the ethical and compliant practices of the firm, combined with the ease of accessing M&G via its online platform makes M&G an attractive choice among individuals and institutional investors who value the disciplined approach that M&G provides in their investment process.

M&G may not provide the same level of tradable instruments that traditional brokerage allows for; however, their emphasis on savings plans, ISAs and unit trust types of products create a unique position in the marketplace. As such, investors seeking consistent growth with a minimum of tax exposure that are interested in having their assets professionally managed, M&G is a good fit.
