Ten brokers on this page hold a licence from the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, and they are ordered by how long each has traded rather than by the WIKILIX score. The earliest opening date on record here is 1799; the most recent is 1976. They were drawn from the 61 SEC licence holders in our records that have operated for at least a decade, kept to firms with a clean regulation status, and ranked from oldest to newest.
Age is the whole of the ranking. The score column moves independently of it: T. Rowe Price, open since 1937, scores 87.9, while IndiaNivesh, trading since 1931, scores 35.7. A long history is a fact about a firm, not a verdict on it, and the two rarely track together.

What an SEC registration actually covers
The Securities and Exchange Commission oversees securities activity in the United States: broker-dealers, investment advisers, exchanges, and the disclosures public companies must file. It does not run the country's retail foreign exchange market. That responsibility sits with the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and the National Futures Association, so an SEC entry on its own shows a firm is cleared for securities business, not that it operates a retail forex desk. Only one of these ten, Société Générale, also carries an NFA licence in our records.
Why the list is ranked by founding date
Most SEC broker lists rank by a star rating or by trading costs. This one answers a narrower question: which registered firms have been open the longest. Longevity is not proof of good service, but a firm that has reported to a regulator across decades has a paper trail a two-year-old brand cannot show. Eight of the 61 qualifying firms opened before 1950, and 21 opened before 1990, so there was a real field to rank.
How the ten were selected
- An active licence from the United States SEC on record, matched to that regulator rather than a similarly named authority elsewhere.
- At least ten years of trading, measured from the opening date we hold.
- A clean regulation status, which is why KEB Hana Bank, open since 1971, sits outside the ten despite its age.
- Ranked oldest first, with the WIKILIX score shown for context only.
What this list does not tell you
It does not tell you where you can open an account. Several of these are institutional houses: J.P. Morgan and Pictet are recorded under Hong Kong and Swiss addresses, and their SEC registration covers US-facing securities work rather than a retail sign-up page. The list carries no spreads, no minimum deposits and no platform detail, because none of that is part of what an opening date or a licence record holds. Confirm any registration on the SEC's own register before you act on it.

This ranking is a snapshot of opening dates as our records stand today, not a fixed order. If an older SEC-registered firm is added, or one of these loses its licence, the list is rebuilt and the order can move. We reconcile the licence records against the SEC's public filings on a regular cycle, so a firm that changes status here should change on the regulator's register too.
To compare on regulation rather than age, a few neighbouring rankings go deeper on a single authority. The top FCA brokers and top ASIC brokers rank tier-1 licence holders by score, the SFC list covers Hong Kong, and the longest-established CySEC brokers apply this same age-first method to a different regulator. For United States securities coverage, the SEC's filings remain the primary source; treat every name above as a pointer to verify, not a substitute for that check.
