Up to N/A Split

Maverick Trading pays its traders monthly. Profits are calculated from the total account value on the last calendar day of the month, and disbursements are available from the 1st of the month that follows. Payments are made by ACH directly to the trader's bank account, with wire and other approved methods also available.

Payouts are governed by a high-water mark. A trader is paid only on profit above the previous peak of their cumulative account value, so a month spent recovering from a drawdown does not generate a payout and no profit is pulled while an account sits below its mark.

The firm runs a monthly mark to market. All open positions are valued at the market close and both realised and unrealised profit are accounted for when the payout is calculated. A trader may leave some or all of their earnings in the account and apply for a larger capital allocation instead of taking a disbursement.

Payouts are normally processed within two business days of the trading month closing, and the trader receives a payout summary and confirmation. Mid month and milestone payouts are possible in specific cases, such as reaching a major profit milestone or completing a tier advancement, and are approved case by case.

Traders at the Professional level and above also earn a one off performance bonus on reaching a set profit milestone for the firm. The bonus is paid in full to the trader on top of the normal profit share. Traders are paid as independent contractors and receive a 1099-MISC each year.

Commission Structure

Trading fees by asset class

Maverick Trading does not mark up trading commissions. The firm states that it profits from a share of trader profits rather than from execution, and that its traders pay no spread fees and no commission mark-up.

Execution is arranged through outside broker partners, which the firm says gives traders professional commission rates, professional data feeds and professional trading software. Because the firm does not earn from trade volume, it sets no volume requirements and says it actively discourages high frequency trading.

Separately from execution costs, each trader pays a monthly desk fee of 199 US dollars. Part or all of that fee returns as a credit, either toward additional firm services or toward the performance bond a trader must post before live trading. The credit is 100 dollars a month at the Associate level and the full 199 dollars a month at the Professional and Partner levels.

Consistency Rules

Performance requirements to maintain your account

Must Follow

Maverick Trading states that it does not impose consistency rules. The firm contrasts its model with evaluation firms that require a minimum number of trades, enforce consistency rules, or set percentage targets under a deadline, and says there is no forced trading activity and no penalty for trading less.

Progression is governed by sustained profitability instead. A trader becomes eligible for a larger capital allocation after two consecutive profitable months, each of which must close above their high-water mark, together with adherence to their approved trading plan and risk parameters. Advancement beyond that is granted by management on review of the trader's record, and at the higher levels carries additional education requirements.

Prop Trading Rules

Trading conditions and rules for prop accounts

0 Rules

Maverick Trading does not publish a fixed rulebook of permitted and prohibited trading behaviour. Each trader's constraints come instead from the written trading plan they submit and the firm approves during qualification.

  • Every trader must develop and submit a personal trading plan setting out entry and exit rules, timeframes, position sizing, risk protocols and trade management. Trading outside that approved plan is the firm's central discipline concern.
  • Position sizing rules and stop losses are a required part of the plan, and adherence to them is reviewed during the demo phase and after funding.
  • Risk parameters, including position sizes and exposure rules, are agreed with the trader before live trading begins.
  • There are no volume requirements and no minimum number of trades. The firm states that it actively discourages high frequency trading and describes its own methodology as neither high frequency nor day trading.
  • Traders may work remotely and part time. The firm has supported remote trading for many years and says the majority of its traders work remotely.

Experienced applicants may submit statements from an existing live account for accelerated approval instead of completing the full demo period.

Firm Rules

Guidelines and restrictions for funded accounts

0 Rules

Maverick Trading describes itself as a private equity trading firm rather than a brokerage. Traders are brought in as independent contractors and given authority to trade a sub-account on behalf of one of the firm's trading entities, so the capital and the positions belong to the firm.

  • Every trader must complete the qualification program before trading firm capital. The firm states this applies without exception, although experienced traders may submit results from an existing live account for accelerated approval.
  • A trading bond, also described as a performance bond, must be posted before live trading begins. Part or all of the monthly desk fee is credited toward that bond or toward other firm services.
  • Funded accounts are monitored in real time. The firm's systems enforce stop-outs and trade restrictions automatically when a trader exceeds the limits agreed for their account.
  • A trader whose capital is judged to be at risk may be placed under temporary trading restrictions rather than removed immediately, and can re-qualify after a final capital review.
  • Capital increases require management approval, and at the higher levels additional education requirements apply.

The specific drawdown and exposure limits that apply to an account are set individually with each trader before live trading rather than published as firm-wide figures.
