Its Amsterdam subsidiary is: Commonwealth Bank of Australia (Europe) N.V. holds a banking licence from De Nederlandsche Bank (DNB) under relation number R161193, effective since 2 December 2020 and confirmed on DNB's register on 28 October 2026. That company serves wholesale and institutional clients in Europe, not retail investors. Two of CommBank's investing accounts, CommSec Australian Shares and Everyday Investing, require an Australian residential address.

Call 1800 805 605 from Australia or +61 2 9687 0756 from overseas, between 8am and 6pm Sydney time on weekdays, use the online complaint form after logging on to NetBank, visit a branch, or write to CBA Group Customer Relations, Reply Paid 41, Sydney NSW 2001. CommBank publishes no email address for complaints.

Yes. Commonwealth Securities Limited (CommSec, ABN 60 067 254 399), which provides CommSec Australian Shares, is a wholly owned but non-guaranteed subsidiary of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, so the bank does not guarantee it. CommSec holds its own Australian financial services licence, AFSL 238814, which was confirmed on ASIC's register on 28 October 2026. It also has its own app and website, which offer other account types, more detailed market research and advanced trading tools; the CommSec app uses the same NetBank ID as the CommBank app.

CommSec Australian Shares is open to people aged 18 or over who are in Australia with an Australian residential and postal address, and applicants verify their identity and give an email address, a mobile number and their tax residency details. Everyday Investing requires an age of 18 or over, an Australian residential address and an eligible linked CommBank account, and CommSec Pocket needs an eligible CommBank bank account to fund and settle trades.

Share trades settle from a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account (CDIA), which you fund by transferring money from another CommBank account in the app, instantly and free, or from another bank using the CDIA's BSB and account number. Purchases are debited two business days after the trade and sale proceeds are credited after settlement; Pocket trades are paid from a linked eligible CommBank account, and Everyday Investing withdrawals are typically available in two business days. First-time and some other transfers can be held for 24 hours.

Online trades with CommSec Australian Shares in the CommBank app cost A$5 up to A$1,000, A$10 up to A$3,000, A$19.95 up to A$10,000, A$29.95 up to A$25,000 and 0.12% above A$25,000, when the trade is CHESS sponsored with CommSec and settled to a Commonwealth Direct Investment Account; trades settled to another institution's account or placed by phone cost more. CommSec Pocket charges A$2 per trade up to A$1,000 and 0.20% above, but a limited-time offer removes brokerage on Pocket trades executed until 31 March 2027. The share trading account has no monthly or ongoing account fees.

Not as an investing account: CommBank's three investing options, CommSec Australian Shares, CommSec Pocket and Everyday Investing, cover shares, ETFs and managed funds, and none of them is a forex or CFD account. The bank does issue foreign exchange products, including spot and forward FX transactions, foreign currency accounts and the Travel Money Card.

CommBank offers more than 2,000 ASX-listed shares and ETFs through CommSec Australian Shares, 10 themed ETFs through CommSec Pocket and four diversified managed funds through Everyday Investing, all in the CommBank app. None of these is a forex or CFD account. Other CommSec account types are available through the CommSec app and website.

CommBank offers messaging in the CommBank app 24/7, answered by the Ceba virtual assistant and messaging specialists, and a personal banking line, 13 2221, open from 8am to 8pm AEST seven days a week, with lost or stolen cards and fraud handled at any time. From overseas, +61 2 9999 3283 is available 24/7. CommSec share trading enquiries go to 13 1519 (+61 2 9115 1417 from overseas), Monday to Friday from 8am to 6pm Sydney time. No general support email address is published.

CommBank sets minimum investment amounts rather than a minimum deposit: with CommSec Australian Shares the first trade in any investment must be at least A$500, and later trades in the same investment at least A$100. CommSec Pocket ETFs start from A$50 per trade and Everyday Investing from A$2 per investment. Opening the share trading account is free, and the Commonwealth Direct Investment Account that settles trades has no minimum balance when opened through CommSec.

No leverage figure is published for any CommBank investing account, and none of them is a forex or CFD account. Investors who want to borrow to invest can apply for a CommSec Margin Loan secured on their portfolio; its page explains gearing, margin calls and lending ratios that can be reduced, but publishes no maximum lending ratio.

CommBank's own platform is the CommBank app for iPhone (iOS 15.0 or later) and Android (8.0 or later), where Australian shares can be traded directly and Pocket ETFs and Everyday Investing are managed. For other CommSec account types, more detailed market research and advanced trading tools, the bank points to the CommSec app, which uses the same NetBank ID, and the CommSec website. CommSec Pocket also has its own app.

Commonwealth Bank of Australia is regulated in Australia: it holds Australian financial services licence 234945 from ASIC, the Australian Securities and Investments Commission, and APRA, the Australian Prudential Regulation Authority, lists it as an authorised deposit-taking institution. Both were confirmed on the regulators' registers on 28 October 2026, as was AFSL 238814, held by its share trading subsidiary Commonwealth Securities Limited (CommSec). Regulation does not make investing risk-free: the Financial Claims Scheme guarantees eligible deposits up to A$250,000 per account holder, but shares, ETFs and managed funds are not covered and can fall in value.

CommBank holds this APRA licence. A licence on record means the authority published an entry; it is not an endorsement.
