CIRO Regulated Brokers in Canada

Every broker in the WIKILIX database holding a registration with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, the body that took over from IIROC and the MFDA in 2023. Ordered by WIKILIX score, with each firm's other recorded licences shown.

Updated September 2026

Twenty-five brokers in the WIKILIX database hold a registration with the Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization, and every one of them is on this page. CIRO is the national self-regulatory body that oversees investment dealers in Canada, formed in 2023 when IIROC and the Mutual Fund Dealers Association were amalgamated into one organisation. Scores across the set run from 54 to 89 with a median of 76.5, and 18 of the 25 were already trading before 2010.

What a CIRO registration means, and where the boundary sits

A CIRO registration says a firm is a member of the Canadian self-regulatory organisation, subject to its rulebook and its capital requirements, and that client accounts sit within Canadian Investor Protection Fund coverage. It does not say the firm is a forex specialist, and this list makes that plain. Fourteen of the 25 are domiciled in Canada, and most of those are domestic investment dealers rather than CFD platforms. Odlum Brown has an opening date of 1923 in our records, National Bank Financial 1902, and RBC Dominion Securities carries the oldest date in the set at 1901.

The boundary excludes something readers often assume it includes. A CIRO registration is not a statement about where a firm accepts clients from, and it is not permission to solicit business in another country. Sixteen of the 25 hold no second licence anywhere in our records. The other nine hold licences elsewhere too, and those are the names most traders arrive here looking for.

How we built this list

One filter: brokers whose licence records include a CIRO registration. No score floor, no minimum age, no exclusion by status label, because a page claiming to list every CIRO registered broker has to list every one of them. The grid is ordered by WIKILIX score, descending. That score is a composite of the regulatory record we hold on a firm, its recorded trading conditions and the user reports on its WIKILIX profile, so it measures what our database knows about a broker rather than the quality of its service. Thirteen of the 25 sit on exactly 76.5, which is why the middle of the grid should be read as a band and not as a ranking.

One broker in the set carries a status label other than "regulation": Ventum Financial Corp is recorded with WIKILIX's suspiciousClone flag. It stays on the list because the page is about who holds the registration, and its profile is the place to read what the flag refers to.

Who you expect to find here, and will not

Several brands that market heavily to Canadian readers sit in the WIKILIX database with no Canadian registration recorded against them. IG holds ASIC, FCA, FSCA, BaFin, MAS, DFSA and FMA licences in our records, and no CIRO entry. eToro holds FCA, CySEC, ASIC, MAS and ADGM. Exness holds CySEC, FCA and FSCA. Their absence is not a judgement about them. It means our licence records show no Canadian dealer registration, which is the only thing this page is built on.

Before you open an account

  • Look the firm up on the CIRO dealer directory at ciro.ca and read the registered entity name, not the brand on the website. RBC Direct Investing Inc. and RBC Dominion Securities Inc. are two separate registrations in this set.
  • Check that the entity named in your account agreement is the CIRO member. A global brand often runs its Canadian business through one subsidiary and everything else through another.
  • Confirm what CIPF coverage applies to your account category. It protects client property if a member dealer fails, not against losses on a trade.
  • Read the leverage figure on the contract. Across the 19 brokers here with a recorded maximum, the range runs from 1:1 to 1:400, and the Canadian dealers cluster at the bottom of it.

What this page cannot tell you is what any of these firms costs to trade with. WIKILIX holds no spread or commission data, so nothing here is ranked on price. It also cannot tell you whether a given firm will take you on as a client, which turns on your province and on the firm's own onboarding rules.

This list is generated from licence records rather than maintained by hand, so a firm that gains or loses a CIRO registration joins or leaves it without anyone editing this page. The counts in the copy above are rechecked when the underlying query is re-run, and the WIKILIX score behind the ordering moves as regulatory records and user reports change. Thirteen brokers currently share a score of 76.5, so small changes will reshuffle the middle of the grid without meaning very much.

If you are comparing Canadian registration against the other major regimes, the sibling rankings are built the same way and from the same licence data. The United States equivalent is NFA regulated brokers, which covers the retail forex dealers registered with the National Futures Association. For the United Kingdom there is FCA regulated brokers, and for Australia ASIC regulated brokers. CySEC regulated brokers covers the Cyprus regime that a large share of the European retail market runs through.

Whichever list you start from, the last step is the same one: confirm the licence number and the legal entity on the regulator's own register before you send money anywhere.

Most Popular Questions
Because our licence records show no CIRO registration for them. IG appears in the WIKILIX database with ASIC, FCA, FSCA, BaFin, MAS, DFSA and FMA licences, and eToro with FCA, CySEC, ASIC, MAS and ADGM. Both are absent here for one reason only: this page is built on the Canadian registration and nothing else.
The Canadian Investor Protection Fund covers client property held by a member dealer that becomes insolvent, within limits the fund sets per account category. It is insolvency cover, not compensation for a losing trade, a platform outage or a dispute over execution. The current limits and the list of covered accounts are published by the fund itself at cipf.ca.
No. Fourteen of the 25 are domiciled in Canada and most of those are domestic investment dealers, including Odlum Brown, Laurentian Bank Securities, Canaccord Genuity Direct and Questrade. Of the 19 with a recorded maximum leverage, fourteen sit at 1:30 or below, which is a securities dealer profile rather than a margin forex one.
No, and this is the most common misreading of any regulator list. A CIRO registration covers a firm's Canadian dealer business, and says nothing about which countries it onboards from. Our records hold licences and domiciles, not client acceptance policies. Check the broker's own terms and its country restrictions before you apply for an account.
CIRO replaced IIROC. The Canadian Investment Regulatory Organization was formed in 2023 by amalgamating the Investment Industry Regulatory Organization of Canada with the Mutual Fund Dealers Association, so a firm described elsewhere as IIROC regulated is now a CIRO member. Older comparison pages still use the previous name, which is worth remembering when the lists disagree.
RBC Dominion Securities carries the oldest opening date in the set at 1901, followed by National Bank Financial in 1902 and Odlum Brown in 1923. Eighteen of the 25 were trading before 2010 and nine of them before 2000. One broker on the list has no opening date recorded, so it is excluded from those counts.
Twenty-five, as measured today. Their WIKILIX scores run from 54 to 89 with a median of 76.5, and thirteen of them sit on the same score of 76.5. The list is generated from licence records rather than curated, so the number changes on its own when a firm's registration changes.
Twenty-five brokers in the WIKILIX database hold a CIRO registration, but only some of them are retail forex or CFD platforms. Interactive Brokers, FOREX.com, OANDA, CMC Markets, Fortrade and Plus500 all hold a CIRO entry alongside licences from other authorities. The remaining sixteen hold CIRO alone and are mostly Canadian investment dealers rather than margin trading venues.
